Ok, does anyone feed their kid "meat sticks"? PIP

My MIL is constantly picking up random things for DS and dropped these off last week: they are meat sticks floating around in a jar of water...Ick!

I told her that they looked questionable and that I'm probably not going to feed them to DS. Well 3 days later, I was out and DH decided to feed him some for dinner. He says that our son "loved" them. Thankfully I wasn't home for that meal.

Anyway, I just can't believe Gerber sells these. Something about them just seems....wrong.

  • gross.  they kind of look like cocktail weiners/hot dogs, but I'd probably read the ingredients to make sure they actually contained meat before feeding them to DD.

  • I watched a little boy once whose mom would send in this stuff.  They remind me of Vienna sausages..basically what you would feed to a dog for a treat.  I would think the sodium/nitrate content in those things alone would set my teeth on edge. *shudder*

HOLY COW 300mg of sodium per serving which is one jar of that stuff.  Umm yeah I would pass on giving them to the kids.

  • Hello choking hazard.  Unless they are uct in slices widthwise and each piece cut in fourths.  This comes from a paranoid mama who has had to finger sweep things out of DD's mouth three times because she was turning blue.  Hotdogs and anything like them scare the crap out of me.  I say no to those too.

  • They are disgusting.  They smell terrible.  I actually did try these with Justin, I can't explain what came over me.  But he HATED them, and I never tried it again.  No plans to even offer them to Tyler.......they really are gross.

  • No, I did not feed them to Ellie and wouldn't buy them, but don't they just look like a dad food? I mean, pretty much every time I leave Ellie with Mike during lunchtime, even if we have healthy, yummy leftovers in the fridge and lots of fresh fruit and good things to eat, she has chicken nuggets, smiley face potatoes and a cup of mandarin oranges or pears or peaches for lunch. And maybe a cheese stick. Or they get Little Caesar's pizza. It doesn't surprise me at all that your husband would be the one to try them. It's all about convenience with these men. Smile

  • LOL, Piper loved those. As a vegetarian, I found them extra disgusting, but she always gobbled them up so I'd resort to them if she had barely eaten at several meals in a row (so she didn't have them often.) Oh, and re choking - they're really mushy, they fall apart when you cut them, so they're not as bad as hotdogs in that respect.
  • Those look seriously vile!
  • Awesome, my new favorite word is "meat sticks"!!

My DH would probably feed those to Alex when he's old enough, and when I'm not around! In fact, DH would probably eat them himself.
