TTC after 35

3rd day of positive OPK

Today makes the 3rd day of positive OPK results.  I first started testing on Tuesday night, (cd9 and last day of Clomid), it was negative.  The next morning (cd10) I took 2 more tests and they were both positive.  However, since then I learned not to use first morning urine, false positive possibilities.  I also learned that testing too soon after Clomid can give you a false positive.  I disregarded those testes.

I tested again on cd11 and it was negative.  Fine.  However, days 12, 13 and now 14 have all been very positive.  I'll call the doctor tomorrow and see what information she can provide me (try different brand possibly).

Has anyone had this happen?  I've been testing around 2pm and again in the evening.  This is so stupid.  I can't believe I have this confusion when it's supposed to be so easy.  :(

Re: 3rd day of positive OPK

  • Hi!  I don't have an answer but can tell you that I had three days positive too...haven't needed the clomid (hopefully won't) but my poor DH was exhausted from all of the BD we were doing.  I finally let him off the hook after the second positive day...hope that wasn't a mistake!

Looking forward to what others say...also,  I always tested in the morning because I am a huge water drinker and I would never be able to go a few hours without drinking water.  So,  think your testing at 2 in the afternoon is great.  Just hope that I wasn't too early with mine.

    Good luck!

  • thanks for posting this.  I have had the same thing.  I am so new to this I thought you just get one day +OPK and then 24 hours to BD.  I had been POAS every morning but after I saw +OPK I  skipped a day since I figured...+OPK this day and only this day....but when I went back the next day and still saw it I was surprised and not sure what was my O day afterall.  Hmm I hope others will share...

  • well apparently we should not need to use the OPK because our doctors SHOULD be having us come in for u/s and blood work.  From that they can tell when we are ovulating.  I hate that I'm not getting that treatment.  I pray that my ovaries are ok.  I'm going to call my OB tomorrow and ask if I can come in for some kind of testing.  This really sucks.

Are you using the digital OPK or just the one where you tell if the line is darker?  Hope your Dr has some answers for you.

  • I was using the ones where one line needs to be darker.  Digital would have been better.  My doctor's nurse called me back and said that typically women stop testing after they get a positive, so that's the only thing I need to be concerned about - is the fact I got a positive.  She said it's very possible that the hormone was still being detected days later and that the Clomid could also be causing that.

I've stressed myself out so badly over the fact that I'm not being monitored like I would be at an RE.  I finally broke down yesterday morning and confided to my husband how unsure I am of my OB.  He reacted so differently than what I expected.  He supported my doctor 100% and said "we are paying her baby, she's who you need to be listening to.  Please promise me you'll stay off those message boards, they are only causing you uncessesary stress.  You have no idea what "all the other women's" medical histories are or what their situation is so you CAN'T compare you to anyone else.  He said you have had 3 healthy children so you know your body is fully capable of doing it."

I felt strong after that.  I had new confidence in my OB, again.  She's not a bad doctor like some have made her out to be.  I know that if I were seeing an RE then I would be getting top notch treatment, but I'm not, so with that being said I can only trust my doctor.  If I don't get pregnant within the next 3 months then I'll have no choice but to transfer over to an RE.  At that point I will know every number and every count and every everything about my reproductive system and on all kinds of days no less.  Until then, I will do as my doctor has instructed and continue praying to the man upstairs.

Although I can't help myself from reading new posts, this will have to be my last entry, until and unless I get pregnant.  Then I will probably be back to chat about that.

Best of luck to everyone here and I appreciate the time that everyone took with me.  Best wishes...  Smile
