I figured out last month that my DS has a sensitivity to milk when I tried to give him Similac Advance several times, and each time he would throw up two hours later. I was exclusively BFing up to this point with no issues. After the third time this happened, we switched him to Isomil Advanced (soy formula), and he's been fine since.
Before these formula issues, I had been giving him some Gerber rice cereal for about a week or so, but stopped to sort out the formula issues. I started the rice cereal last week again, and he's thrown up each time he's eaten it - it seems like there might be some dairy ingredient in the rice cereal - I can't identify it, but I'm thinking this must be the case....
Anyway, I talked to the pedi, and they recommended giving him some organic oatmeal. I'm hoping this will work, but am kind of nervous to give him something other than breast milk or soy formula, since I've had such intense vomitting episodes with him....anyone else going thru the same thing? I guess I'm trying to find out that I'm not alone....if you've had issues - what has worked for you?
Re: Anyone have a LO with a sensitive tummy?
We've had a heck of a time with DS's digestive system. He has milk and soy protein intollerance. He's on a very specialized formula called neocate.
We waited until 6 months to start solids and he did not tolerate them at that point either. We thought they may be processed on lines with soy or milk so I tried again around 7 months but with home made baby foods and he still isn't tolerating them. We get the vomiting and he has colic symptoms for 2-3 days after having solids.
The pedi just keeps saying to hold off for a couple weeks then try again. She also said that the baby food is just for practice at this point and all he really needs is formula for the first year.
I noticed my LO also had an intolerance to milk/soy (eczema symptoms). She did not do well with Gerber or even Earths Best. turns out there is some soy in earths best that they do not put in the ingredients list (I called them....). The cereal that she has been able to tolerate is the happy bellies oatmeal and rice cereal. they even make a multi grain cereal as well. all of them are soy and dairy free. GL!
