keeping milk cold while out and about?

How do you keep milk cold if you are out and about? We try not to take short trips when we know DD will want it, but sometimes it can't be helped! My diaper bag came with a "bottle koozie" but it really doesn't keep it cold for long. I really don't want to have to tote a small cooler with us, so any suggestions would be great!

Re: keeping milk cold while out and about?

  • We have the insulated nuby sippy cups.  I stick them in the freezer with some milk in it for a half an hour or so before we leave and the milk usually stays cold for 2+ hours.

  • If it's a longer trip (2+ hours) we pack our small cooler with his insulated sippys.  If we're just buzzing around town I just bring juice with.
  • I also pack a small soft sided cooler with an ice pack in it if we are going to be gone all day.  I just leave it in the car.

  • We have the stainless steel Foogo sippy cups that supposedly keep milk cold for 6 hours. I never let it go that long, but it is fine for a couple of hours for sure, especially if I stick the cup in the freezer for a bit before we leave.
  • we use the Foogo sippy and straw cups if we'll be out and about and need him to have milk.
  • Get the milk juice boxes, does not need to be kept cold, thats what I use.
  • I use klean kanteen bottles and he has a sippy cup from them.. it keeps anything cold for a long time.
  • DD loves ice in her milk....so that keeps it cold too :-)  Not sure it would for 2 + hours....so if it is longer than an 2 hours I would suggest an insulated cup!

  • I bring a little soft cooler with me with an ice pack.  and pull the milk in and out.

  • DD drinks milk with her meals and can have water between meals.  So if we're out and about I just order milk wherever we're eating.  And I keep a sippy of water with us at all times, but I don't do anything special to keep it cold.  DD will drink room temperature water.
