Kentucky Babies

Lexington - St Joseph East

Hello,

We just moved to Lexington 2 months ago and our 2nd baby is due in September.

Has anyone here had their baby at the new maternity ward at St Joseph East?

Also, can anyone recommend an OB at Associates for Women's Care?

Thanks.

Re: Lexington - St Joseph East

  • Hi, and weclome to Kentucky! Congrats on your second LO!

As far as recommendations, I've heard only good things about St. Joe's East, but I've no familiarity with anyone there except the high-risk guru, Dr. Campbell. He's a phenominal guy and I don't normally like male OB's. If you want a midwife instead of an OB, there are some really great ladies that you can find on https://www.baby-moon.org/birthresources.html. There is a list of MW's that deliver at St. Joe's, or you can call and ask for a recommendation from them for a great OB. Hope this helps, and the very best of luck to you!

  • I am 38 weeks and will be delivering at St Joe East.  I see Dr Elkhairi, but she is moving out of state in Aug which wouldnt help you that much.  My friend is a nurse on Labor Hall there and also pregnant with her 2nd.  She saw Dr Campbell the first time around and is now with Dr James there.  She (James) is  very friendly and down to earth.  They also have 2 midwives but i am not sure of their names (another friend just delivered with one and had nothing but praises) .  All in all i dont think you can go wrong with that group.  I will find out in a couple of weeks :/
  • I gave birth in 08 at St. Joseph East and had a wonderful experience.  I'm looking forward to giving birth at the women's center this time.  It has to be nicer since it's all brand new.  We'll see in October!

I was seeing Dr. Elkhairi, too.  I was so bummed when she said they were moving during my appointment a few weeks ago.  I'm switching to Elkinson for now.  I've never seen her before, so I'm hoping I like her!  If not, I'm just going with James.  She did my son's circ in 08 and was the dr that discharged me.  She was fantastic, and our pedi would always comment on what a good job the circ was when he was little!  :)

  • HI! I haven't delivered there yet, but I will be any day now! I go to associates for women's care and I see Nancy, one of the nurse/midwifes. My experience with the doctors hasn't been very positive. I think the midwives are much more personable and attentive. I have been in labor and delivery twice so far and the staff at SJE is wonderful. I hope this was helpful!
