where to go on vacation

Hi Ladies! I'm looking for some suggestions on a good place to vacation. I really wanted to go to florida but don't want the drive. I'd love to drive about 5-6 hours tops and we want to have a "beach" to go to. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've only lived in cincy for 10 months so I'm not familiar with good vacation spots. TIA!

  • I could be wrong, but the last time I researched this, the closest any beach point was to this area is 9 hours, and that was somewhere in VA. I used Google Maps to map from my city to a point on the east coast, then dragged that end point up and down to try to find the closest place. Sorry :-(

  • there are all sorts of beaches on lake michigan and lake erie. put-in bay is really cool beach island on lake erie. as for actual ocean, it will take longer to get there.
  • We're going to a place on Lake Michigan next month. There's lots of beach towns along the lake, it's not ocean but it's pretty! The place we're going is about 4 hours away.

  • You are looking for South Haven, Michigan.
  • I like Deer park, has nice trails, good ice cream shop, pretty cool locals.  . . . ; :)

THIS! Exactly why I didn't go on a baby moon! Couldn't find any beach within 5-6 hrs. Maybe a lake with fake beach would do? Wink I know it won't be the same.. but its still a getaway! :)

  • We loved going to Lake Michigan last summer.  I felt like we were at the ocean (and even saw surfers in Grand Haven!)  We stayed in the Muskegon/Grand Haven/Holland area.  There was lots to do and we loved all the beach towns.

  • We love family trips to Sandusky, OH.  You can stay in areas that have homes right on the lake.  There are several lighthouses to visit in the area.    It is a lake beach, but it does the trick when you want to lounge on the sand and soak up some sun.  It is always cooler than it is in Cincy.  Cedar Point is so much fun, and there are 2 or 3 indoor waterpark (think Big Wolf Lodge) type of hotels there.  Both of my kids love it there.  The drive is a little over 4 hours.

  • lake michigan and lake erie are definitely so large it is like being at the ocean minus the saltyness :) i think we are going to do a lake trip next year.
