working out

I am only a little over 2 wks pp, only had 2 sutures from a small tear-do you think it is OK to do some light yoga or pilates? I just feel like I lay around all day (which I do-can;t do much when EBF!!) and I would like to do something to get my energy up.

I know we are not supposed to do anything until 6 wks and I guess I can always call my doc, but wondering what you ladies thought!

Re: working out

  • Honestly, I wouldn't do anything other than walking. Everyone is different, but I just think your body needs more than 2 weeks to heal properly. Even without the stitches, your body has been through a lot.

I had it a lot worse (3rd degree tear), but even at my 6 week checkup, they told me to give it another 2 weeks before doing strenuous exercise.

That's just my opinion. I'm sure some people feel differently. I just don't see the need to rush it just in case, ya know?  :)

  • Yeah, I would hate to make things worse when they are healing well.  I guess I am just antsy to get back into a routine!!
  • I don't think walking will do much harm?
  • I go for walks (this also helps Ashton get some sun and vitamin D). Last night for the first time I did some extra exercise. I followed a sparkpeople.com video online using a resistance band. It worked the arms and a little on the legs. I'm not going to do anything more strenuous until I get the okay at my 6 week check up.
  • Walking should be fine!

I know what you mean about getting back in a routine. I was not expecting her to tell me to take it easy (as far as exercise) for another 2 weeks! I feel fine, but I'm just trying to remind myself that my body went through a lot recently.

  • I also had only 2 sutures and felt exactly the same way. I was all for getting back into exercise and then someone posted on here about having a prolapsed uterus from doing too much too soon. It freaked me out and I stuck with just walked for the first month.

  • I was told I could start back at 2 weeks (only had 5 stitches from eisiotomy)- I started back w the elliptical then got to more intense stuff by 4 weeks- it was EXACTLY what I needed!

  • I walked a lot and did VERY simple pilates at 2 weeks.  A couple moves felt weird/off, so I stopped those moves, but continued with other moves.  I saw my Dr. at 4 weeks and he said I had healed up just great and released me for everything (working out, returning to work, sex, ect) I worked out a lot pre-pregnancy, and kept up as much as I could while I was pregnant (worked out the week I gave birth and my water even broke while I was swimming) so I feel like I was fairly strong to begin with.

  • i started 45 minute walks with the stroller at 2 weeks.  that was enough to really help my energy level!
