Babies: 0 - 3 Months

could have lost my DD last night :(

I am still such a mess about this and terrified!

I was giving DD her bath (we use the whale tub) and I always wipe off her face with the washcloth. Ya know, since she usually has a formula stach. Anyway, i always use a very DAMP cloth, but sometimes DD breathes in! Well, this time she took a deep breath just as I was wiping her mouth. All the sudden I hear her choke on water, then her eyes got so big and she (NOT JOKING) WAS NOT TAKING ANY BREATHS!! She started kicking and got really stiff so I grabbed her out of the tub, her whale tub sits in our corner bathtub, so i grabbed her and jumped out of the big bathtub. Now realizing I could have really hurt her if I would have slipped and fallen. I was screaming for Todd (DH) or my mom, who was here. They came running to me, LO still not breathing. My mom grabbed her and DD started screaming and crying! I was sobbing and shaking and ran into the other room so I could get away!

She is fine now, STTN again!!! But it is awful to look at your baby and see the most terrified look on their face! I felt so helpless and immediately went into panic mode! I always thought in a situation like that I would be so proactive and know what to do. I know CPR but I completely blanked on everything!

Thank the lord that she is okay!

  • Oh that is HORRIBLE. I am so glad that she is ok! I still use cotton balls to wash LO's face. Maybe you can do that instead.

  • That is so scary! I think that when it is your own child your reaction changes. My now three year old was attacked by our cat about a year ago and she was bleeding from the head pretty badly and I had no clue what to do.  I was even in the middle of nursing school! Glad to hear that she is okay though.
  • How scary, you poor thing!  I am SO glad she is ok.  That is just terrifying.

  • I know the exact look you are talking about!  DH kept thinking it was okay to give our DD a chip here and there (see ticker, she is older).  Well we were at a Mexican food restaurant and he gave her a chip and I gave him a dirty look.  :)  About a minute later she had that look, no breathing, no sound and sheer panic on her face.  He stood up and his chair flew into the table next to ours and we got her out of the highchair and she started coughing and crying and screaming.  Sooo scary and guess what. . .he doesn't give her chips anymore.  :)  That moment is so scary and I will tell everyone out there, there is no doubt when your child is really choking!
  • That is very scary. I am glad your LO is okay.
