Popping over from 6-9. I am shopping around for a convertible car seat soon. What kind of conv. car seat do you have? Do you recommend it? Are Britax car seats really the best to get? TIA!
We have the Britax Marathon and Frontier 85. Marathon is very easy to install and lots of room for my ds. We have been very happy with both car seats. FYI their customer serv. is GREAT! We had an issue with the Frontier and they took care of the problem with no questions asked.
I first bought the Graco MyRide 65 and HATED it...I mean, hated isn't even strong enough of a word. The chest straps would not tighten...we pulled and pulled and it just wouldn't cinch. We called Graco and they told us that this happens with some of the cars...the little metal piece gets stuck underneath the bottom and doesn't allow it to cinch the chest straps appropriately. I looked online and there are lots of complaints about it.
We returned that seat and went with the Britax Marathon. We love it. Easy to install, easy to get Lilly in and out...it's was definitely worth the money.

We got the Evenflo Symphony 65 and like it so far. All of the reviews I have read compared it to the quality of the Britax but MUCH cheaper. They are around $200 at BRU you can use the 20% coupon.
We have a Marathon. I got it on Diapers.com as a closeout for $150. If you shop around and watch deals, you can get one for the same price as some other options.
Our neighbors like Britax, but I don't know why. We have the graco my Ride 65. It's probably $100 cheaper and I think it's very comfortable and it has 2 cup holders, which our neighbors told us that Britax doesn't have. That's all I know.
The Evenflo Triumph Advance gets the best rating from Consumer Reports. We have one and love it. It was super easy to install and I love the features. It's just big but it fits in our Civic fine. We also love all of the features. We have a True Fit in our other car and love that tio but it was harder to install.

I was worried about fit when we picked ours out and used carseatdata.org to make a decision. We have the Sunshine Kids Radian 65 and it's great. It's recommended on this board from time to time.

I absolutely love my Britax Boulevard. We have even used it for traveling on on airplanes. My daughter is now 25 months old and she loves the pink color. It is well built has a strong steel frame and you cant beat Britax for their know safety standards and testing on the seats. I love Britax mostly bc there seats are so innovative and I know my little one will be safe in case we get in an accident. I also love the soft seat cover and cute fabrics that the car seats come in. I am a member of the Britax Safety Squad but the opinions expressed here are my own.
I have the foonf by Clek and I love it. He doesn't get as hot and sweaty in it and it's much more comfortable for him than his infant seat. He's a tall baby so I had to go with something that had a better height/weight option for rear facing since I plan to keep him that way for as long as possible. I think I'm going to go for the Radian for my husbands car. For now he's still in the infant seat in his car because we use it less often but that's on my hit list for deals right now.
Britax have short shells. They are grown out of much quicker than a Graco Mysize for instance. Britax are also not known for leg room because they are short front to back as well as top to bottom.

This and they are not safer than any other seat because seats don't have safety ratings. The myth that they are the "safest" is known as the Britax Bubble. They're perfectly fine seats but the idea of them being better than anything else is just marketing.
With DS1 we exclusively used Graco seats from the infant bucket all the way up to his backless booster & LOVED them.
With DS2, we bought a My Ride 70 from BRU for DH's truck when he was around 7 months old. We had nothing but trouble with it. It was hard to get him in and out. The straps wouldn't tighten right & kept getting twisted. Now the material is fraying on it. So when it was time to buy a convertible for my car we looked at everything but the MyRides. We loved the Chicco NextFit but couldn't justify the price tag. We found a Britax Marathon on sale for like $190. My little guy is in the 80th percentile for height, but so far at 11.5 months he's no where near outgrowing it height wise. We love it. I can see where the leg room is smaller than the Graco's but I'm really not that concerned with him having to bend his legs.
I agree with PP though, that mostly the "safest seat" thing is just a marketing ploy.
We recently purchased the graco size4me 70 (also called graco my size 70 or graco headwise, depending on where it is sold and when it came out). We really like it and haven't had any problems with it. It adjusts like the chicco nexfit or graco smartseat, but it is about $100 cheaper! It also adjusts so your child can fit rear facing longer than most car seats because the back adjusts to go up so high. Hope this helps!
Re: Convertible Car seat recs. please ?
I didn't like the Britax seats at all, and they weren't worth the price up here.
We got the True Fit and love it!

DH has a myride in his car and I have a safety 1st complete air in mine.
I love both of them. DS is very comfortable and they both have high rear-facing limits.
The complete air is quite a bit taller than the myride (which was important since I have a very tall baby - almost 30").
The best carseat is one that fits YOUR baby and YOUR car the best. I would recommend going to BRU and trying them out in the car first.
We love our Triumph Advance too!!
