TTC After a Loss

Can I say "I told you so"? NTTCALR

I sit on a non-profit board.  Our board president is a flake and made a ton of changes to our golf tournament fundraiser, and didn't get board consent for a lot of them.  They are giving away a car if someone get's a hole-in-one.  That's costing us big time in insurance, which I pointed out, but I was ignored.  Plus she spent a lot in other promo type stuff, also not approved by the board.  They doubled the prices of the sponsorship, which I highly opposed.

I just got an update since the tournament is in a week.  They have half of the sponsors we did last year and only 5 golf teams.  We may get a little more yet this week, but honestly, we'll be in the hole at this point.

  • I would.

What an idiot, aside from the fact that in THIS economy doubling the price of anything is the kiss of death, when you're talking CHARITY and they're already feeling the hit of peoples small budgets, you have to be the world's biggest nincompoop to raise prices like that.

I'd like to know if they've raised enough $ to even cover the cost of the giveaway.

Exactly.  I explained to them that our economy is horrible and you can't do that.  They also upped the entry fees by $20/person, which again I said, will be really hard on people and we won't have as many people participate.

No, they have not raised enough to cover the giveaway.  I'm really rather ticked about this because it's such an awesome charity that I really believe in.

  • That sucks. I'm sorry. You'd love to be all smug, but probably the negativity that she caused makes it even worse, right? I hate when I am right in a "bad" way.

  • Well, if she didn't get the appropriate consent of the board, it's not a board sanctioned event, right? What's in the by-laws regarding this? Can she be ousted and replaced?

It's sad that the charity itself suffers because one person is so utterly stupid. That's the true tragedy. What's the charity? I mean, you don't have to be specific but is it for poverty, aids, cancer, diabetes, etc.

It's a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.  Unfortunately our by-laws aren't the greatest.  It looks like we can ask her to step down, I need to chat with some of the other board members.  I know some of them aren't happy, but we'll need to sort things out about her.
