Liam never pulled on his ears or had a fever with his ear infection. He would scream/cry when laid flat on his back. He was very irritable... with an ear infection they shouldn't want everything in their mouths because it hurts to open them far or suck/swallow...
teething, lots of drool & everything going in the mouth!
DS had a fever and was unusually crabby. He also stopped trying to stick his fists in his throat.
Ear pulling/tugging is more of a symptom of teething. I read somewhere that they can't localize pain yet, so it would be unlikely that they are pulling on their ears to indicate pain.
ETA: I forgot to add that he shrieked when he was laid down. That was the main indicator.

Nico just had his first ear infection last week, and we had this exactly. He would scream hysterically if we tried put him down; we had to be up and walking all.the.time. But he continued to show signs of teething throughout. If you're really not sure, I would call the dr. When I called ours, they wanted to see him immediately just in case. He ended up with a prescription for Amoxicilin.
thanks ladies... ill take his temp. his mood is up and down happy one minute, crying the next. still eating okay and laying on his back ok. i know he is teething but i hadnt seen the ear pulling until yesterday and it is continuing today. maybe hes just finally getting that darn tooth!
