Best book you've ever read

I've been on a real reading kick lately. Recommend the best book you've ever read. (Not childrens books, although I do love those)

  • I love Outer Banks by Anne River Siddons. I read it every summer.  I also love anything by James Patterson and the Ya Ya Sisterhood series.

  • Harry Potter by far. Not necessarily children's books. As far as single book I'd go with Persuasion by Jane Austen.

Love Harry, I reread the series twice a year... I still get chills when I open the cover and see the note on the inside cover

I know I've been reading it to James even though he doesn't understand. I'm totally going to the midnight premiere of the movie in November. Yes, I am that much of a geek.

  • My favorite book of all time is The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver.  It was written probably 20+ years ago.  I just had the pick for our book club and we read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.  Everyone really enjoyed it.  Now I am reading The Girl Who Played With Fire by same author.

  • Also, my favorite is American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the Girl Who Played with Fire are excellent. The third book just came out and I've only started it...takes a bit longer to read now that I have a little one.

  • Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. I can read that book over and over and never get tired of it. I wanted to name DS Holden but DH HATES his character. lol

I loved this book when I was 15.  I reread it a couple of years ago and wanted to throat punch Holden.  Salinger's short stories are aces, though.

  • The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

LOVE them both.  They are both being made into movies and I fear they are going to suck royally, the casts are terrible.

  • Stiff: The secret life of human cadavers has really stuck with me.  Very interesting
  • They are action-packed mysteries. Some of the most unique story-lines I've ever read. It's about this girl who is offbeat, a loaner, but very smart - she's a computer hacker. She meets a well-known journalist and the two uncover some secrets that put them in danger. Sorry - I'm not very good at summarizing the stories - but if you like mysteries I'd be willing to bet you'll like these books. I couldn't put the first two down once I started them.

  • The Power of One by Bryce Courtney....it's all about the sweet revenge in the end.

I just bought My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares.

Oooh, I loved The Art of Racing in the Rain.  Loved the vision of Enzo strapped in the car on the racetrack...barking twice for faster.  I gave my copy to a friend; may have to get it back for a reread.
