EBF Moms Food ?

How are you handling your appetite? I feel like I'm starving 90% of the time. I've been trying to make good choices with what I'm eating and snacking on, but its hard to do when you're hungry ALL THE TIME! I'm not trying to diet since I know that can effect my supply, but I'm also not trying to gain a bunch of weight either.

Do you eat every time you're hungry or do you try to eat/snack based on normal meal times etc.?

  • I usually start with a bottle of water first.  Your body might tell you it's hungry even if it's just looking for water.  If that doesn't work I will eat something and  I try to pick something small and somewhat healthy.  I've been obsessed with strawberry applesauce lately and fruit.

    Thats how I am, sometimes I feel like I eat more now than when I was PG.  I always try and have a small, healthy as possible, snack after i'm done bfing DD or have something small while i'm pumping.  I have lost all my PG weight but 5 lbs, and have been the same weight, even eatting as much as I have been I have not gained. I also drink alot of water, about a gallon a day. That will help keep the full feeling sometimes too.

  • ive been doing luna bars, string cheese, fruit...etc.

    the mini luna bars make for a good snack, low cal and some protein.  i'm always hungry too!

  • I'm constantly hungry, but don't always get to eat as often as I would like! I've basically been living off of Fibre One bars and similar sorts of things...plus fruit, mixed nuts, rice crackers, anything I can grab really. I def. think I'm more hungry now than when I was pg!

  • I eat when I'm hungry, and drink lots of fluids during the day. Since I'm frequently eating, I just make sure not to eat a bunch of crap. My snacks are fruits, veggies, and protein (nuts, lean meats, etc.). 

  • I have noticed lately that I eat like a crazy lady....I cannot believe how hungry I am all the time.  I have been eating lots of things with oats in them - oatmeal cookies, granola bars etc., fruit and I tend to grab a ham sandwich for lunch (cheap and quick)

  • I am always hungry as well. My LC told me I should be eating/snacking every time I nurse. I usually eat watermelon or some other kind of fruit and lots of water.

  • Oh good!  I thought I was the only one, I'm eating more now then I did during the 3rd trimester.  Just trying to keep it healthy and remembering that all of this passes on to Rohan.  Poor girl though, I like to snack on lots of veggies and it gives her terrible gas...is anyone else having that kind of an issue?
