TTC after 35

My First RE Appointment

Happy Friday Ladies,

So, I just got home from my first RE appointment and I'm not sure what to think really. He was great! I really felt comfortable with him and the staff. I was nervous about being a single woman, but he put me right at ease. Accoridng to him, it's a non-issue. It just means he has only one side of the equation to evaluate.

I did the medical history and then he did the ultrasound. He said my uterus looks great, nice thick lining (10.5 I think....whatever that means). Ovaries looked pretty good. No cycts or anything, but he said there was no evidence I ovulated this month. I did OPKs and got the surge, but I guess there was just no egg. I guess it could just be an off month or something more serious could be going on. I forgot to ask him how he could tell that I had ovulated. I guess maybe there would be an empty follicle in my ovary???

Next steps are to do blood tests on CD 1, 2, 3 or 4 - I am guessing this is FSH. Then I will do an HSG test between CD 7-10 and then a fluid ultrasound around CD 25-27.

Anyone know how long it should take to get the FSH test results back? I guess that is the one I am worried about - wondering if I have any eggs in there. Or maybe it's all nothing. Maybe I was just stressed out this month and didn't ovulate. We'll wait and see.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Welcome!  I'm terrible at the test stuff so I can't give you any advice there - I either Dr. Google my tests or consult TCOYF or ask here.

    Best of luck to you!

  • I got my FSH results the same day. the nurse assigned to me called me to give them to me. I don't know if it usually happens that quickly, though.

     good luck!

  • I'm still just floored that I did not ovulate this month. I guess I knew there was a possibility that there could be an issues, but I didn't really think there would be since I haven't had any known problems. Not even sure what it all means. Guess I am now terrified that they will do the FSH test and tell me I have no eggs. My brain is playing all these tricks on me as my mind tries to "justify" not ovulating as a freak this month only occurance. I have a regular 29-30 day cycle, I had the textbook LH surge....where the heck was my egg!!!!!

I know, I know...I just have to wait it out to see what the other tests say...sucks.

  • Thanks so much for sharing!!!  I'm awaiting a call back to schedule my first appointment and this is so helpful just to get a sense of what they might do.  I think waiting is the name of the game for us on many levels for the coming months.    It's all so exciting and yet scary too I know. Please KUP and I'll do the same.

I had a saline ultrasound on CD 10 last month and they said - I think you are going to ovulate on your right side and then afterwards on CD3 the next month I said can you tell if I ovulated and they said ...not always.  If you had a regular period that's a good sign.  Also not ovulating could be fixed by using a trigger shot - doesn't mean there are no eggs.

www.fertiltyplus.org has good info the standard tests. Hope everything comes out okay.

  • Thanks jacath - that's exactly what I needed. Just lookng for some tiny indication that I am normal. When the Doc said I didn't ovulate, all I could think to myself was "how did he know that". Not sure why those words did not come out of my mouth though. Although he was funny - he tell me if that if there was an egg in there, we would get it out. : )

  • I got my FSH results same day as well...good luck with all your tests!! :)
  • I got my CD3 blood work back within a couple days.  I think the length of time it takes depends on where the lab is and how long they take. But I would shocked if it took more than a few days.

You could have had an annovulatory cycle  where you don't ovulate. It's not uncommon for women to have this once in a while. It will become a problem if it happens more and these test will help in figuring that out.

    Good luck!
