Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Any 7 1/2 month olds not crawling?

My DD isn't even getting up on all fours yet. She will push up with her arms and push herself backwards, but no signs of actual crawling. I know every baby hits milestones at their own pace, but I'm beginning to get that "oh, really?!" look from friends when they ask if she has started yet. Just looking for someone else out there who may have a 'late' crawler too since friends/family seem to think she should be by now.

Mines not either..Im not worried though. He moves around just fine by rolling and pulling and army crawling. Every baby is different. I would say a late crawler is 9-10 or even later months not 7.5=)

  • Nope nothing (and I secretly like him being immobile).  He'll be 8 mo old this weekend, and will rock back and forth if we put him in the position, but its hard for him to pull himself up.  He's in the 93rd percentile and probably weighs 23/24 lbs!  He'll get there eventually....

  • My 8 month old isn't crawling yet, and I don't consider him to be late.  He won't get up on all fours either.  The last few weeks he started really leaning forward when he's sitting, to the point where he gets one of his legs bent behind him and starts kind of pushing off of it... but the other leg is still in sitting position.  And then he topples over.  If that made any sense.  I'm not worried about it for a few more months though.  I have a friend with an 11 month old who doesn't crawl... that's when I'll start to get a little concerned.

This is EXACTLY what DD does too!

  • My niece didn't start until she was 10 months old.

This is exactly what my DD does too, and then she eventually sort of just lets go and gets on her tummy, and then starts whining. fun!

I don't think there is anything to worry about at all. My understanding is that crawling isn't even really a milestone- some babies just skip straight to walking.

  • Definitely nothing to worry about. DS started at almost 9 months. I worried about it at one point. Boy was that a mistake.....

    he runs now.

  • Not even close.  Ds#1 didn't crawl until 10 months. They do it when they are ready. No worries.

  • The inlaws seem to be thinking my DS will be walking soon. When we told them he isn't even crawling yet they acted like he was SO behind. I hate when people do that. Anyways my little guy isn't 7.5 months yet but he is no where near crawling, and I wont worry for several months if he still isn't crawling. Just don't listen to friends/family, they always seem to make me worry so I just stopped listening to them.

    Isn't 7.5 months incredibly early?

  • Allison isn't crawling yet.  She doesn't even get all the way up on her knees.  When she is on her stomach, she just kinda flops around and is beginning to try to push forward.

    Not even close to crawling.

  • **looks down at ticker** I guess I should be worried?  DS shows interest and gets frustrated at not moving, but we're not crawling yet either.

  • DD's not 7.5 months, but she's also not even pushing her belly off the ground. I think normal crawling starts around 8 months, and 7 months is early. don't pay attention to them. some babies never ever crawl, they skip it and just walk, so its obvioulsy not a big deal.
  • Some babies never crawl and just start to walk.  Some babies crawl for a long time and walk later.  Every kid is different.  If your doctor is worried then I would worry but otherwise just let LO do what she wants to do at her own pace and tell your friends and/or family that make comments to piss off (said in British accent).
  • Nope, he's not crawling or even attempting to really.  He pushes himself up in the front, but nothing on the legs yet.  He kicks a lot... :/

Yes. Our pediatrician said around 9 months or so is average. But some babies skip crawling and go right to walking (I wouldn't be surprised if DD is one of them--she just flips onto her back when put on her tummy).

  • Crawling is not a 7-8 month milestone.  That's still very early.
