Registering for excersaucer/activity center?

DH's family has already bought a bunch of my big stuff on my registry.  It's not that I'm gift-grabby but more that I don't want my family, which tends not to plan ahead as much, to feel left out or like my registry is picked over. So I was thinking about adding a couple more "big" items but I don't want to do it for no reason.  If you're already a mom, is an excersaucer/play center a good idea?  I like this one:

Any thoughts or feedback?

  • My DS has THIS one and loves it! It will be a while before they can use it but definitely something you want to own!

  • When I asked my good friends with young kids what to register for, they all told me that I needed an exersaucer. They said it saved them when they needed to shower or make dinner.

  • I'll say the opposite of the PP's.  I'm a nanny and for the amount of time the LO's really like the exersaucer and the amount of space it takes up, I'm going to try to borrow one, not buy one.  However, if you have most of your stuff bought then go for it, I just know we will have things we will probably need more and I know I can borrow one of my bosses.  Just my two cents!

  • My friends with kids have had those and say its a must have, really helps them out when the kid has been frisky but they have to cook or something.

  • For DS we got this jumperoo and this excersaucer (well, we have the older model since DS is 2 now, it's the same thing just the activity centers are a tad different). I swear the excersaucer helped him to walk at an early age.

  • I have heard only good things about walkers from my friends who are parents. I registered for one made by Chicco after watching a YouTube video on it. It looks easy to store, is height adjustable and has a bunch of little sound-making buttons and dials on it. Here's to hoping LO likes it! :)

  • DD has an exersaucer and the Fisher Price Laugh N Learn jumperoo. She likes both but prefers the jumperoo cuz she can go crazy with her little legs. I highly recommend registering for one.

  • There is a 4 month period of my life that I would have never gotten a shower if not for the exersaucer. I love that thing!

  • I say add a jumperoo as well as an exersaucer!

We caved and bought this for DS when he was six months old (swore I'd never own those kinds of things!).  Well, he loved it!  It was great for cooking, etc.  We borrowed an exersaucer from a friend that we kept in our basement.  He preferred the jumperoo.

  • First, I love the exersaucer.  Yes it is big, and you only use it for a short period of time, but for that period it is priceless.

Another thought....I had the same dilemma you did with that I needed to have enought things on my registry for people to shop from.  However, I got a lot of hand-me-downs (including 2 exersaucers!) from sis and friends, so there wasn't a ton I needed!  And, I wanted to prevent people from buying away from the registry because that is risky.  So, I put things on my registry with the intention of returning them.  Nothing super expensive...some $40 items and a couple $100 items.  People loved being able to buy what they thought I needed, and I loved it since I returned them and had enough store credit to buy my $300 stroller which nobody would have bought since it was so expensive.

I don't tell many people I did this, because I do feel that it can be percieved as horribly tacky.  I viewed it as practical and making it easier for the guests that prefer to buy from the registry.  Just a thought.
