2nd Trimester

Baby Shower - too late?

My mom, MIL and friends are going to be throwing me a baby shower but with my hectic schedule the only date that seems good is when I'll be 36 weeks. Now I feel like that might be cutting it close. But even if we do it the week before, that's still not much better. I just don't want to ruin everything if the baby decides to come early. :-( What to do?

Re: Baby Shower - too late?

  • I will be 36 as well for the same reasons... with DS I was 36 and delivered at 38. It happens you should be fine though

  • I have known people to have their showers even at 38 weeks! I think you will be okay.

  • I will be 36 weeks at mine too.  I am not really worried about it. It was a weekend that worked for me and most of the other people that I want there.  Figure if I have the baby before that for some reason I will just have a shower after.
  • I don't think it is too late.  A friend of mine had her baby ealry and we just moved the shower to her house and everyone got to meet the baby too.  The only part that would stress me out is having everything put together and washed before baby gets here.

  • I had my baby shower with DS at 34 weeks and I thought it was a little late.  I didnt have much time to make sure I had everything I needed that I didnt get at my shower.  But some people have there showers later on purpose.  I'd try and do it a little earlier!

  • I think my shower with DS#1 was when I was about 35 or 36 weeks and it was fine.  He was early too-3 days.  But most first babies aren't early at all, so I wouldn't worry about it.  I had mine in the middle of August and was even still comfortable.  But I guess that pregnancy was pretty easy.

  • no, not too late.

while certainly possible it is not very likely that a first baby will arrive 4 weeks early.  And after my shower it only took one day to get everything assembled and washed.  Granted that is all I did that day, but I was so excited I couldn't help it!

I would change it. We had my sisters scheduled for 36 weeks. She went into the labor 2 days before and had the baby the day before. I am not going to lie. It was so sad for her to not be there.
  • You are def cutting it close, but I think you will be fine.

  • I don't think it's too late. Even if the baby comes early, people will be flexible and understand. I got called the morning of my friend's shower, she went into labor at 35 weeks. We had her shower a few weeks later and the baby came. People who had bought the essentials just brought them to her house.

  • I will be 29 weeks at my shower. Family from out of state will be here during that time so we decided to just have my shower then. I didn't want to have a shower during my 8th or 9th month because I didn't want to be too uncomfortable or anything. I think 36 weeks is cutting it pretty close. You could go into early labor or be very uncomfortable. But 35 weeks is better than 36.
