TTC after 35

darn

so I had the d&c on June 10 and the testing is coming back and everything is showing normal, chromosomes and FISH and whatever are all normal. Ugh, so now do I ask for any specific testing to be done? It seems I can concieve but not carry the pregnancy past 6 weeks.

I will be doing a HSG when my AF shows. (hurry up and show!)

Any info anyone?

I'm sorry.  I know there is an additional test that can be done on your chromosomes but I really don't know much about it.  I read something about if you have more than on m/c - what should you do and it mentioned it.  I'm sur some other women here will know what it is - if not, try posting on TTCAL.

  • i'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I had 2 natural mcs both around 5 weeks during the time we were TTC our first. I kept wondering why I wasn't holding the pregnancies and why they ended around the same time, but we didn't have testing done on them. but just because you had the mc doesn't mean you can't carry a pg to term, as you have your beautiful DD.

With me, I had DD #1 via IVF with ICSI, but we also lost a twin during that pregnancy, again around the 5 week mark. When I got pg naturally with DD #2 surprisingly I didn't have any of the fears I had earlier in our TTC journey. I think this was because I had implantation spotting with DD #2's pregnancy and I'd never had that before, so in my gut I felt it was a good sign and that all was well with the pregnancy.

if you want to pursue more testing you can ask your dr. or you can mourn the loss knowing what you know and get back to TTC again when you are ready. good luck.

  • I am fine with the loss and we are ttc again, thats not the issue. The issue is, if there is some reason that I am miscarrying at 6 weeks or right about there, what is it and can something be done so it does not happen again.Would prefer to have that info if available prior to get pregnant again and miscarry again and going in this cycle. Would rather do something about it than going over and over and over for the next how many months or whatever. This last one, it was known that my progesterone was low, so is there anything else. Thought I would ask if anyone has anything they have had done testing wise to try to find out.

    Thanks

    Kristin

  • So sorry you have to deal with this - I know all too well how frustrating and painful it all can be.

I am curious why your doc would order an HSG when it appears you are not having trouble conceiving - that is usually done to check for blockages in the tubes.  If the intent is to take a look at your uterus to see if there is something going on there, it is my understanding that an HSC (hysteroscopy) is the gold standard - you might want to ask your doc about that.

As far as other testing, you can ask for a chromosomal karotype, and also that they test you for all of the different clotting disorders (anticardiolipid, MTHFR, etc.).  They can be really expensive, and are generally low yield so often the docs don't order them as a matter of course.  They took a TON of blood from me for all these tests, so be prepared for that too.

Good luck - I hope you get the answers you are looking for.

  • did they have you on progesterone suppositories or a progesterone pill during this recent pregnancy? i know after i had my 1st mc the dr. thought maybe it was due to progesterone. when i got prego the 2nd time they put me on prog. pills when i started to spot, but i still mc'd again. however, i have a friend that had known low prog. and her dr. put her on suppositories immediately when she got BFPs and she carried those 3 pregnancies to term. and like the other poster said maybe it's worth getting testing done for blood clotting, etc.

  • Sorry Kristin, i hope you get some answers soon!  I dont have any info for you, i dont understand myself when there were no problems found....very frustrating!!!!  Hurry up AF and get on with the next and your HSG ((hugs))
  • I think it might be a good idea? then you might be able to see if there is any genetic problem :( we did this recently, havent gotten the test results back yet, but its just a blood draw... GL :)
