Weight Gain, not the same old same old UPDATE ABOVE

So in my post below about swelling (How do I), no one responded.  I just was wondering if a 7 lb weight gain from swelling in less than 24 hours is a problem.  Is this normal?  I know you are not docs, but I need to know if I should call.  Thanks ladies.

  • Yes, you should definitely call.  I've seen in books that anything more than 4 lbs a week is cause for concern.

  • I would definitely call. It's probably nothing, but that is one of the indications on my list.

  • I'd call!  That seems like alot of weight in 24 hours.  Better to be safe than sorry.  GL and keep us posted!

  • Weight can fluctuate so it may be nothing.....why are you weighing yourself every day?

  • Yes.  Take your BP if you have a cuff at home and call your doctor.  Are you hydrated?  You can actually retain more water/gain a ridiculous amount of weight simply by being dehydrated.
  • It could be a problem... or it might not. If you weigh yourself at two different times of the day (morning one day and after dinner the next), your weight can change by more then 6 lbs. I gain 5 lbs throughout the day.

I would call your doc. If you are having a lot of swelling, they will want to check you out. It is probably nothing, but you will want to be sure.

Normally I weigh myself on Wednesday nights.  Yesterday I felt so huge and swollen I thought it would be good to weigh myself.  My watch and rings were tight and they hadn't been the day before.  That is the only reason I know that it was such a large weight gain.

My weight fluctuates a lot normally, but not 7lbs in a day!  I have been going to the bathroom regularly and my eating and drinking habits have been no different than they have been the last 8 weeks since my ms subsided.  Also, I had just gone to the bathroom Wed evening and Thurs morning, a lot, so I was surprised with the huge weight gain.  I'm pretty uncomfortable the swelling seems so bad.

ETA: I weighed myself at almost the exact same time on Thurs night as I did on Wed night.

  • I remember my Dr saying if your gaining more than 2-3 lbs throughout the  day then your not drinking enough water.  So keep chuggin that water and please do call your Dr.

  • Did you have Mexican food or something else that was really salty? That can do it sometimes.

Nope, nothing different than I normally eat.  I don't normally eat really salty things anyways.  Maybe I'm dehydrated.  I feel like I drink so much water, but who knows.  I'll let you ladies know what happens after my appt at 345p

  • One day I gained 6lbs and almost wanted to die. I cried and went to bed. Weighed myself in the am after peeing like 5-6 times and 5 lbs of them were gone. Our bodies are doing funny things right now. Don't freak.

Not freakin, but concerned.  I peed 5 times more yesterday than ever, same with today.  I weighed myself again this morning and I still am up 7 lbs.  I can't even put my watch on that was loose 2 days ago.

Swelling and retaining fluid like that can mean alot of this but for pregnant women the main concern is high blood pressure.  You did the right thing calling your doctor, you should definitely go in.  GL

ETA: sorry for the double post

  • If you are concerned, you should always call! That's what the Dr. is for. 7 lbs. sounds like a lot to me.
