I saw the letter the owner wrote to the fans and can't help but thinking that this owner is being a little pouty. Don't a lot of players jump around from team to team for more money, better chance to win, etc? I'm guessing from all the outraged fans that there HAS to be more to the story. Anyone care to fill me in?
Re: Can someone explain this Lebron thing to me?
I know it sucks for the fans that he left but really can you blame him? He is moving to a more desirable climate to many and has increased his income and chances of attaining personal goals.
I don't care for him personally but I don't judge him for the move.
I'm an hour away from the Miami area, so everyone down here was excited that Lebron is heading to the Miami Heat. What his old fans and team owner were complaining about is that a) he went to the Heat for less money and b) Cleveland is his home town, so they feel betrayed.
What they don't understand is that Lebron has been with the same team for 7 seasons and actually wanted a real shot at getting an NBA championship, so that's one of the reasons why he left. He didn't feel that the Cavs were going to do much of anything anymore. The Heat has Dwayne Wade and now Bosh, so he wanted to be the third component of the 'dream team'.
I could be wrong since I am not a fan of basketball, but it's all over the news where I am and that's the gist of what is being reported.

The owner is upset because he feels that he "catered" to Lebron for the past 7 years. He hired Lebron's BFF on the management team and paid him lots of him, just b/c he's his BFF; they built the arena where they play (I think $25 million) closer to Lebron's home to make him happy, and numerous other things. Oh well...that's your dumb fault for catering to someone!! You can't blame him...in 7 years he's never won a ring, and now he is guaranteed to! Plus, he made the Cavs a somewhat decent team b/c they were nothing before Lebron.
As a Miami girl....Let's go HEAT!!! We are very excited to have the Dream Team

Thanks for adding more to the story. They didn't report that on the local news down here. I also say go HEAT

I am in Cleveland (but from Texas, so I'm an import) and the city feels shafted that he announced his decision to leave on national TV rather than telling the Cavs owner man to man (they would feel shafted even if he told the Cavs owner face to face). He is professional basketball player, his job is to get paid playing basketball and he feels he has a better chance to win a championship in Miami - so be it. Cleveland has turned on him very quickly - he is still a hometown boy but they cannot support him for wanting more. And now they talk about his ego - guess who gave him that ego - the crazed fans who started calling him "the king" - he didn't give himself that designation. As soon as he made his announcement last night I could hear the entire city of Cleveland start to weep while simultaneously torching all the LeBron gear they spent good money the past 7 years.
I am preparing for Cleveland to jump on the Colt McCoy bandwagon next and scream for the firing of another Browns coach if he doesn't play this season. Just a prediction.
I see you're from Pompano! I lived there when I was younger, then moved to Lighthouse Point (where my parents still are)...now in Miami. We HATE it here, can't wait to get back to Broward.

The Q was built before Lebron was even in high school, my dear. It was Gund Arena first.
I think the biggest issues are
A) He dragged this out and didn't tell the Cavs staff that he was leaving before making a nationally televised statement.
C) He screams loyalty and "Go Akron/Cleveland" at every opportunity (see his movie, "More than a Game") yet leaves at literally his first opportunity.
I can't blame him either, but I do see why they're irritable.
Actually, his high school basketball team started calling him that. Kinda odd for a Catholic school, right? That always bothered me.
But he's the one who calls himself the King of Akron, not the fans.

I stand corrected.
Yes, the Cavs did very well with him but Cleveland survived before LeBron and they will survive after too. Cleveland has lots to offer, I'm not sure why there is such a stigma attached to Cleveland seemingly solely based on it's sports teams.
Ah--I'd never heard of those practice courts before and you're right--built in 2007 and they're located in Independence, which probably saves him 15-20 minutes drive time that it would have taken him to go all of the way downtown to the Q.
I'm from Akron and without revealing too much information about myself, I have a lot of connections to St. V-M so I've heard a lot about him over the years (but no, never met him. I used to see him in the mall every so often when he was in HS, though).
And yes, Cleveland will survive. But they're going to be bitter and lick their wounds in the meantime. I'd say CLE is "always a bridesmaid" but honestly? We're a little more like the girl on the side--always getting screwed and never gonna get a ring! LOL!
Hello Neighbor
THIS - all of it.
Being from Cleveland my whole existance...I've come to this conclusion - We are die hard fans. Yes, we may build them up, and carry our super stars on a pedistal - and we expect them to be our heros and the moment they turn on us, yes, we turn on them an ban them. I think we are irrational, crazy & wacky fans...and I love being a cleveland fan! I think the whole thing is that Lebron carried this decision out for way too long. Who needs an hour to tell us his decision. It gave what little hope cleveland fans had, more hope that he would stay wouldn't publicly "break up" with us. As far as Dan Gilbert & his letter to fans... I think he was upset and let the tongue get the best of him in his moment of probably feeling betrayed...but he said what almost every fan was thinking.
Also, something along the lines of him draaaaaaagging things out, keeping the Cavs from benefitting from the free agency game. With them having a shot at keeping Lebron, they lost the opportunity to pick up other free agents. So now, no Lebron and no one else either.
I feel sad for Cleveland.
I was originally from North Miami (of all places). I drive down to Miami every 4 or 5 years and it seems to get only worse. I hate it and I don't even live in Dade county, lol.
We plan on moving from Pompano to get a bigger place by the time the baby turns two, but we have no idea where in Broward we want to go.
