question about formula

once i figure out how much A is drinking i plan on making multiple bottle at once. however for the mean time i'm making bottles as needed, since i'm slowly introducing the formula.

do you us boiling water to mix with the powder and let it cool?

if not, what do you do?

TIA

Re: question about formula

  • I have never done it, but all my friends just use room temp bottled water and mix it with the powder...

  • As far as I know, you just use room temp water, no need to boil.  You can use slightly warm water though if you prefer to feed him the bottles warm.
  • I always just used the temp of water that Rowen liked.  I never boiled I just let the sink run until it got to the correct temp.

  • For powdered or concentrated formula you need to use bottled water, or boiled water. Don't use tap water. You'll get deposits from the pipes and flouride (most water districts). It's better to use distilled bottled water if you can w/ no additives to avoid upset tummies.

I don't heat all bottles up anymore but to make the transition from BM to formula easier on everyone, you'll want to heat it up for the first few weeks ( since bm is naturally warm) Put the prepared bottle in a bowl in the sink, and run hot water over it tap water us ok. You can also microwave a bowl of water and put the bottle in that.

remember to add water first, then the powder. The formula packaging will explain in more detail why.

  • You might want to use some of the premixed liquid to start the transition too.
