South Florida Babies

Hypnobirthing Class Scheduled!

So excited! Our plan is to go all natural, med free....I had an epi w/DD and felt that I could have gone longer without it because the pain was not bad, but I only got it because of the fear of the unknown (I was also 21 years old, just a few weeks shy of my 22nd birthday)

My friend is part owner of the center...she is a Chiropractic Physician, Certified Doula (DONA), HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator, and Certified Hypnotist who specializes in the care of pregnant women and their families.  I am so excited to be taking her class in August!  I am taking the Sat class with Vivian Keeler in Hollywood.  Although we live in Boca and the Boca class is closer, we want to take her class since we know her.  If anyone watches the baby story, Vivian was on an episode with a couple that delivered in Miami. Lori in Boca is also excellent, and actually we will have to take Class #4 during the week to make up for the Sat class we miss w/Vivian since my baby shower falls on one of the days scheduled.

(they have classes in Hollywood, Miami, Wellington and Boca in case anyone is interested)

Anyone else planning on going (or trying to go Med-Free)?

Re: Hypnobirthing Class Scheduled!

  • Just want to say hello! My daughter is 2 months old, and I took the prenatal yoga classes at Amazing Births in boca the entire time. They are so awesome! I labored without the epidural (thanks to yoga), although I ended up having a c-section.

Just wanted to say good luck, and Amazing Births is the best place ever!!!

  • Good luck with your birth goals!

I had an unmedicated birth with my son.  We took the Bradley Method that is also taught at the Hollywood Birth Center.

I've met Vivian a few times, she's very nice.  :)  I'm glad you are getting to take classes with your friend.  That's fun.

That's great!  Glad you enjoyed it....and the yoga worked until you needed the c-section. Did you deliver at East Boca?  I am very excited about the class and LOVE Amazing Births!

  • Yea I just practiced my breathing from yoga, and I read the hypno book, which helped too. I couldn't have done it with out either. But the yoga was so awesome! Now we do mommy baby yoga, and we love it too! I would def reccomend the yoga to anyone, and it was nice to chat with other pregnant women too!

I delivered at Wellington, but I have heard great things about east boca, and that they are supportive of a natural birth. Wellington was supportive for me as well :)

Oh yea, and I had prenatal massages with Katie, that were amazing! so worth it!

I have had several friends deliver at East Boca and love it.  Amazing Births has an agreement w/East Boca and they now allow water births...AB can bring the birthing tubs. I have heard Wellington is also great too!

I am on modified bedrest so I can't do any exercise....but I can't wait to do mommy and baby yoga!  I had a prenatal massage at a salon but def want to go to AB...and I could use one right about now!

  • I also had an unmedicated birth using the Bradley method. We used Stephanie in Boca from Amazing Births. We labored at home for 8.5 hours after my water broke. We delivered at Boca Community 3 hours after we got there. I've heard great things about Hypnobirthing. Sounds like you have a good plan!

  • You girls are all an inspiration. It is my goal to go all natural, med free as well. I'm definitely going to look into all of this. Its far from me but I will travel to achieve my goal!
  • How cool that you'll be able to take the class with your friend.  I also had an epi with my first child and delivered my second child naturally.  I read the Hypnobirthing book and took prenatal yoga classes with Debra at www.prenatalplusyoga.com in Miami.  She was also my doula at both births.  I found the prenatal yoga classes to be incredibly helpful and informative (lots of shared wisdom and birth stories to help me prepare).  I never took the Hypno classes but definitely found the book and the CDs useful during my labors.  I labored quite a while with both (about 24 hours after a week of strong BH "false labor"each time), and I managed to stay home for most of my labors, which helped avoid the c-section and lead to the natural delivery, especially the second time.  More confidence the second time also helped me refuse the epi that was offered (although I considered it!) and helped me insist on getting up out of bed at the hospital (which was frowned upon).  I delivered my first at South Miami and my second at Baptist in Miami.

    Enjoy the Hypnobirthing!

    Tania
