i get updates from my friends from work, and the latest news is that there might be layoffs...yikes. I've been there for almost 8yrs, i'd like to think that my job would be safe, yes?
I feel your pain. I just had a conference call this week where we found out that something that is large part of my job (about 20%) is now going to be outsourced to a center in India. Luckily there were only 5 layoffs of people in my position in the US and I wasn't one of them, but it's still very scary. All I keep thinking is are they going to find a way to outsource more of my work to India? When I come back from maternity leave, how much longer will I have a job for?
It's bad enough that my DH's company has been in bankrupcy since last October and it's only a matter of time before he's laid off. Could you imagine if we have a baby and are both on unemployment? It terrifies me!
i'm the bread winner, so me loosing my job would really hurt us. i dont even want to think about it. I've thought about applying for other places and positions but if our hospital is hurting this bad, others are too.
Honestly it might be worth apply to other hospitals (or at least looking into it). Some hospitals can run efficiently and some can't. It's hard to know which is which until you work for them. Hopefully seniority means something and hopefully if they do lay offs they do it by progress reports and get rid of the people with the worst progress reports.
Good luck and lots of hugs! (to anyone worrying about their job)
I hope you have nothing to worry about. I've been with my company for 7 years this November and have lived through 3 severance packages by landing on my feet. It hasn't always been perfect but we have made it work. I agree that it might not hurt to look into other option just in case.

The amount of layoffs in this country is ridiculous.
I hope your job is safe Nicole!!!
