Induction, yay or nay?

So today I had my 32 week appointment with a doctor I at my practice that I have not seen yet this pregnancy. We were talking and I mentioned that I was nervous because DD was 4 hours l & d, 3 days early and we live 45 minutes from the hospital. The doctor got a shocked looked on her face (not real reassuring) and told me that at my 38 week appointment we could schedule an induction for anytime starting at 39 weeks. I told her that I wasn't sure about taking that route because at my 20 week u/s, baby was measuring 6 days behind. She said it would be totally up to me but when I go into labor with this one, do not listen to the on call doctor when he tells me to take my time, take a shower and head to the hospital, just head straight in. My mom thinks that I should not go with the induction. My DH thinks that I should. WWYD? There is a hospital that is only 15 minutes away that our insurance would cover in case of an emergency but it is not as nice.

I'd just head in at the first sign of labor rather than being induced when the baby might not be ready to make its appearance.

I would not be induced if not medically necessary. Baby should be allowed to come when he/she is ready unless complications arise. It seems like a lot of unnecessary stress on LO and your body.

From people I have know irl who have had inductions, I would avoid one if possible. I would rather just go straight to the hospital at the first signs of labor.

I'd pass on an induction any day. Contractions with pitocin are almost always more painful and why induce if the baby is fine on the inside? I would just head to the hospital once you are in labor.

I just believe babies will come when they are ready when there are no medical reasons to induce their arrival.

For me personally I'm asking for an induction at 39 weeks. Thats the earliest my Dr will allow. I'm choosing to have mine early because of the amount of swelling and carpel tunnel in my hands is making it difficult for me to do anything. With that being said if you're comfortable waiting on an induction I wouldn't do it. Just leave when you reach the 5-1-1 rule immediately.

I was induced with DS and had absolutely no problems, contractions weren't any more painful for me than with my first (which wasn't induced)... I would do it again!

I had an induction with #1 and it was smooth as could be, so I have no problems with inductions. That being said, I think I would wait until at least my EDD. I'm too nervous to go too far past due since DS had passed meconium when he was born (at40w2d).

My Dr. also can induce at 39w for 2+ time moms, but I really wanted the whole "This is it" panic, go into labor, run to the hospital feeling with #2.

Both my induction and my non-induced labors were 4 hours long, and I totally agree DO NOT wait for contractions every 5 minutes for 2 hours crap. I called L&D after an hour of hard, random, contractions, and the nurse told me to get my behind THERE before I delivered in the car!

I'm due Aug. 1 with #3 and will heading out the door with the very first contraction!

I just posted about this as well. My doctor offered to induce @ 39 weeks so I can make arrangements for childcare for my DD. She said she would only do it if I was dilated and my body was ready, otherwise I would have no choice but to wait. I am back on forth on the idea, but I'm leaning toward doing it if I can. Figuring out how to handle DD is causing some anxiety and it works out perfectly that the doctor who delivered her (who I feel most comfortable with) will be on call the day I'm 39 weeks. I think knowing the induction date will allow me to relax a little more, which I feel will be better for me and the baby. Besides, babies are born earlier perfectly healthy, and c sections are also scheduled for 38 or 39 weeks.

I am in a similar boat. My total labor with DS was 3 1/2 hours. I was only in the hospital 45 minutes before I started pushing. I told my Dr today about how freaked I am and she said the same about inducing at 39 weeks. I'm 100% down with this.

For us I think it would be much easier on DS to get dropped off at Grandma's then I go and have a baby and he comes and visits later. Rather then risk going into hard labor while trying to get him ready, my Mom over to the house and DH home from work, ect. My DS picks up on stress really quick and I don't want his first expierence with a sibling to be some crazy day where he's rushed around and Mommy is about to give birth at the front door.

My doctor will only induce if I pass 40-weeks mark and my body is ready for labor. I am currently 4-cm dilated and 50% effaced, and 2 days away from my due date. If I go 5 days beyond 40 weeks (a week from yesterday), he's going to schedule me for an induction.
