Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How much to pay...

for 1 hour of babysitting? I want to start working out again. I did pilates twice a week with some fellow teachers up until I was 39 weeks. I am ready to get back to it.

We work out at the school for an hour on Monday and Wednesday mornings over the summer. One of the daughters of my co-workers has offered to come watch LO while we work out. She will have her in the room right next too us and LO will probably be sleeping the entire time. She doesn't expect to be paid but I feel like I should give her something. She is 11 and getting up early to watch my DD.

  • We pay $8 an hour for our 19 month old, but we just started using a sitter.  What if you got her like a Target gift card or something she'd enjoy for over the course of time.  That way you are giving her a little something!

  • $10?  11 seems young to me.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • For that situation, I'd say $5 would be fine. I pay my sitter $15/hr, but that's for 2 kids and she picks them up at daycare and brings them home, gives them dinner, puts them to bed, etc.

I normally would say the same thing except she is going to be there with us and has taken the child care class at the local hospital. We work out in one of the classrooms. It just makes it easier for me if LO needs changed or fed. I don't have to give up 15-20 minutes of a 45 minute pilates class.

That is what I was thinking. Like PP said, I also thought about getting her a gift card when school starts for all her time.

  • Sorry, I'm no help. Our oldest is 20 months and we've never paid for a sitter! Both sets of grandparents live 10-15 minutes away so we are lucky! I agree with the PP that $5-10 sounds reasonable.
  • We will be paying a coworker's daughter to watch DD for a few hours next week while we have a nice dinner and she charges $10 an hour.  She is also 17, though, and will be coming to our house.  If you aren't sure, the gift card idea is great....ask her mom what her fave store is.
