Even other pregnant women don't have tact

My sister is pregnant, and even without the hormones she's known for speaking her mind.  This makes her recent FB status update even more hilarious, and since many of you have had similar experiences, I thought I would share:

S stupid pregnant girl at target asks me how far along i am so i told her 33 weeks, she says shes 31 weeks(and twice my size) then asks me if my doctors are worried about my baby bc im so skinny (which im NOT!) so i asked her if her doctors were worried about her baby since she is so fat. she didnt like that... LOL!  She really does look tiny, but she's already gained 27 lbs.  That's what happens when you start out as a size 2/4 and are 5'6.  People just need to keep their "worries" to themselves!

Re: Even other pregnant women don't have tact

  • Definitely amusing.  I kind of feel for the poor girl at Target in a way dealing with the idea that someone called her heavy.

Funny thing is that I have a set of neighbors that are not convinced I'm not going into labor any day now.  I reminded the Mrs that I just started my third trimester this week so I still had a while to go.   Fortunately all they are asking is if we're ready for delivery day (D day) yet.  The Mrs had a little girl about 16 months ago so it isn't as if she hasn't be pregnant before.  I think it's more the fact I'm 5'2" and they usually see me in a camisole and shorts (which is what I sleep in).

Yeah, I feel bad for the girl and would never be able to say this to someone even if it's what I was thinking.  I'm not even a skinny girl myself, but it seems like a lot of people think it's more okay to comment on someone's lack of weight gain, which can be just as distressing to an expectant mom.  My nephew was a preemie and under-weight, so my sis is already freaked out anyway about this pregnancy, and I guess she's just had enough.

  • My mum only gained 12lbs (started at 98, ended at 110) when she had me. I was a very healthy, very full term 7lbs, 3oz. People harassed her saying that she was starving her child for her own vanity. She told them to shove it (in much more polite terms). Everyone is different!

People suck. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I have my mum's amazing childbearing genes. She left the hospital in her pre-pregnancy jeans with 3 out of her 5 kids!

  • I love how people tell you that you can eat anything you want just beacuse you are pregnant and it doesn't matter how much you put on.

You sister is so funny. I hope I can be that tackful when we head to Canada and I have to deal with lots of family asking lots of questions - they tend to be touchy and also a little too open. :)

  • Ha ha!  I think that's hysterical!  Way to go for your sister!
  • LOL! That's great!

  • i can't wait to see SIL next month at her shower.  she's about 5'8" and usually 100 lbs.  It will be interesting to see her with some weight on her!
  • That is pretty awesome.
  • I would never be able to say something like that to someone, but I can only imagine how good it would feel. Too funny!
