Well ladies, I may be TTA for a while until DH and I figure a few things out
I am in grad school right now trying to get my MAT in Special Ed. Well I have been putting off my student teaching until we were in a place financially to where I could quit my job while I did the student teaching. We are not in that place yet. BUT there are currently 4 teacher assistant positions open in the EC department in my district -- that never happens! I really need one of these jobs -- I feel like I have to get my foot in the door, plus I could hopefully do my student teaching as a TA. But it would of course be a huge paycut for me So probably not the best time for a baby.
Of course I haven't even been offered a job yet, but I just don't think we can continue to TTC until we know a little more about the situation.
I am pretty sad

I'm almost done with my Master's in Literacy. I did my student teaching a few years ago. Granted SpEd may be different (although we've had SpEd student teachers in my building) unless you work at night/weekends, there is no way to have a full time job and student teach. As far as I know, you won't be able to ST while working as a TA. The only way I'm aware for your to TEACH (as a "regular" teacher) is through an alt cert. program.
If you plan to ST in the fall, you'd be done by December.
Best of luck making the right decision for your family
I am checking with my advisor right now so maybe she won't take too long to get back to me!
I am planning to do my student teaching next spring.
I am sorry you are having to make such a tough decision. I comend you for thinking of the future and what is best for your family.
I do have a question though, are you already teaching now? Do you have to do a special ed. student teaching with regular education classroom experience? I ask this because I am considering doing a Master's add-on certificate with ASU because they just started an off campus program in my area. I just finished my Reading K-12 Master's and I am definitely taking the next year off. I feel insane for thinking about going back, but there is so much that I want to learn! I don't really know anything specific about the program so any info you have will be appreciated.
I wish you the best in finding a job, finishing your Master's and making a baby, in which ever order they occur!
That's really disappointing. But whatever you decide will be the right thing for your situation and your baby.

I am not teaching now. I actually have my undergrad in Sociology! I decided on the MAT in Special Ed. because it is basically for people who want to become teachers but don't have any teaching experience or an education degree. But yes, I will be a SPED teacher. After I get the first round of student teaching (and the praxis - yikes!) under my belt, I should be good to go! I won't be finished with my program though -- will still have 6 classes and another internship to do, but I can get my licensure after I finish the first half of the program.
I can see how having an undergrad in Sociology would be beneficial as a SPED or Regular ed. teacher! On the bright side, there are always openings for SPED teacher's in my district and the surrounding districts. Good luck with all these steps, you should be proud of yourself for making these sacrifices for your family! Good luck with your endeavors!
