What is your motto in life? Something you strive to live up to? Do you have something on a magnet or plaque in your home that you read to calm down or remember who you are or remind you to take it easy?
Please share.... ![]()
I have a personal one which I am sure everyone is familiar with which I have liked for so long that I have a friend who sent me a magnet with the saying, "Dance as if no one is watching, Sing as if no one is listening, Love as if you have never been hurt..."
That was my single girl's motto and how I hope to raise my girls to live and love. ![]()
Now we have a family motto. I actually found it on a bio here on The Nest. I cannot remember whose...I think it may have been Jessi's. It stood out and made me go, "that is SO us!!!" I had a plaque made of it and put it up in the middle of my house.
"We may not have it all together...but together we have it all."
It reminds me to take a breath and enjoy what I have. That as long as we are getting kisses and cuddle time, the dishes and laundry can wait another hour or another day.
Please share yours... ![]()
Re: Poll: Do you have a motto? If not, make one up....
Love both your mottos. So true.
Mine is in my siggy. : ) It is the lyrics to "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" song by Jimmy Buffett.
"If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane" -- Jimmy Buffett
We have a plaque hanging above our door it reads "I can do everything through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 ". When things are getting hard or we are goignt through rough times, Eric and I like to remind each other of this verse.
One that has always stuck with me, and always will "Carpe Diem"!
I use the one VandRicky uses all the time..
I also say God wont give me more than I can't handle..
And one me and the kids use alot is.. You get what you get and you don?t get upset.

Love these mottos! I have a few as well - It is never too late to be who you might have been. ~ George Elliot. I interpret this quote to be very versatile - it reminds me to always strive for more not only in my professional career but in my personal life as well. It's never too late to be a better mother, daughter, sister, wife, friend, neighbor...
Another one that I love is, God is with you in all that you do. Genesis 21:22 Just another reminder to trust in Him.
"Lo que esta pa ti, nadie te lo quita!" aka "whats meant to be will always find a way"
Another thing I live by: KARMA...
that one. (I have a few)
"Happiness keeps you sweet; trials keep you strong. Sorrows keep you human. Failures keep you humble. Success keep you growing, but only God keeps you going"
"Don't look down on anyone unless you're helping them up"
"To the world you are one person, but to one person you are the world." -- this one I like even more now that I have Abraham
"Love is all you need"
"It'll all work out."
My grandmother said it all the time. She lived through giving birth 9 times, the death of one of her children (a 4 year old girl), tuberculosis, tb treatments that included having her lungs collapsed weekly (alternating lungs) as outpatient treatment (she had to take a bus downtown and back home and have dinner ready for my grandfather when he got home at 6pm), the Great Depression with little kids, and a whole lot more, including Alzheimer's. If she could see that things work out (she would even say it in the depths of her Alzheimer's), I, with my cozy little life, certainly should remember that, too.

PLP-- Pa la pintura (we use the dirty word). In English-- The hell with it!
DH and I came up with this. We were going through a really rough patch when Matthew was born and we realized what was really important. And all of the petty things--The hell with it.
Once we realized this, things have been good. I even got my coworkers to say PLP!
Love everyone's mottos
My personal one is "To love another person is to see the face of God." It's a quote from Les Miserables (the musical...not sure if it's a line from the actual Victor Hugo novel lol). I think I'm a pretty spiritual person, though not necessarily very "religious," and my spirituality is very much grounded in seeing God in the world around me, especially in my loved ones. I look at my daughter, my husband, my family, friends, etc., and I really consider them my own personal miracles. I really believe in "the greatest commandment" according to the Catholic interpretation of the Bible, which is when Jesus said that we were to "love one another as I have loved you." I think if you leave this world having shown love and compassion for those you encountered along the way, you did well in God's eyes and the rest doesn't really matter.
Anyway, the point is that I feel more connected to God and my spirituality when I am surrounded by my loved ones and enjoying time with them versus when I am alone praying or in an church. So that's my personal motto/philosophy. We don't really have a family one, but DH has a small tattoo that symbolizes "wealth, health, and happiness" and I think that's his own personal motto and what he strives to achieve for us as a family.
