Question about pregnancy test line??

Hi ladies,

This is my first post, but I have been a lurker for a while now. I have had a faint positive line for the last 3 days! 9,10, 11 dpo, only it's not getting any darker. I know a line, is a line, is a line, but shouldn't it be getting darker each day if levels are supposedly doubling? Is it too early? I went to have blood work done yesterday and go again tomorrow but won't hear any news until Monday! I expected to see the line getting darker each day and now I'm starting to panic. Is this normal??

  • The darkness of the line is irrelevant.

I think you should focus on your bloodwork and doubling.  The line darkness depends on many factors.  The type of test, the concentration of your urine at the time of the test, what you have ingested before the test..many, many things.

I wish you luck on some awesome bloodwork.  Oh, and congrats!  A line is a line!

  • my FRER specifically stated on it that test line color makes no difference.

it's not measure HOW pregnant you are.  Only measure that you do indeed have pregnancy hormone in your system (not how much of it is in your system)

  • I honestly wouldn't worry about it. You're still so early, and it can fluctuate depending on how diluted your urine is.

But for those that say the darkness of the line is irrelevant...  yes, it is irrelevant when it comes to telling you whether or not you're pregnant, but the line will typically get darker as your pregnancy progresses.

  • Thanks ladies! I feel relieved already. Just needed someone to confirm what I was thinking.
  • I have a minor correction on what a PPer said.  The darkness of the line doesn't completely matter yet for you.  It's more important that there is a consistent second line on each test.  Take a digital for something even more definitive.

I had an early m/c just over a year ago, had three faint line BFP tests and then the morning I miscarried, a BFN and what appeared to be a normal, but late period.  The next cycle, I had tested daily for two weeks and my line stayed faint.  But it stayed there and didn't go away. After 14 BFPs, I felt confident that I was pregnant and it wasn't a chemical pregnancy.  It didn't mean I was completely safe from m/c, but it did mean that I was still pregnant.

Positive bloodwork at the Dr will make you feel better, I promise.  Like another PPer said, watching the numbers double will make you feel even better.  GL!

  • I've heard its not the amount of hormone but the amount of dye that came on that specific test.

stop testing and just believe you are pregnant!

    congrats!

  • I know that sometimes seeing something that you don't feel right about can still make you nervous. Try using one of the digital pregnancy tests that say Pregnant or Not Pregnant. It will make you feel better to see the Pregnant without having to worry about how dark it is. Good Luck!!!

I had the same thing with the first two tests I took...so I waited like two weeks and took another which came back darker.  When I went to the Dr they confirmed!  I read on the box that if there is a line even if its faint then it is positive!  CONGRATS!!!

  • The darkness of the line does not indicate how pregnant you are.  Stop testing and relax!  Listen to your own advise...a line is a line, that means your pregnant.  Congrats :)

  • It may take a week to get darker.  Sometimes it also just depends on how much you've had to drink, the time of day, etc.
