New to The Bump

Hello from a newbie and a question

Hello all,

Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I've been on the knot and the nestie.. and now my husband and I are thinking it's time for a baby! :)

Quick question: DH and I are looking at health insurance that covers maternity and are getting irritated by the results. Did anyone else have these sort of problems? Any one have any advice? Side note: DH works full time but for a small company so his company does not provide Health Insurance and I am a full time student.

Any advice would be appreciated! :)

  • Most insurance have a waiting period before they cover maternity, they range anywhere from 6-12 months. Its annoying but its to keep people from getting pregnant then getting insurance. Maternity cost insurance companies a lot of money.

  • I had this problem too. I needed it for the maternity leave. I work for a small firm with no benefits and my DH has the medical. I got Aflac insurance and another insurance called Assurant. Between the both of them it should cover my leave. There was a waiting period but it wasn't too long. I want to say around 30 days or so. You have to be on the insurance so many days before the pregnancy so the birth is within the time frame. GL!
  • Thank you both for your responses. This insurance thing is annoying as hell but it will be worth it in the long run.

@Shanen: I looked at both Aflac and Assurant and both look promising. Tyvm! :)
