NBR: 102 Degrees and dog locked in car!

I am fuming! I work in a medical office building and just stepped outside...

There is a dog locked in a crate, locked in a car with the windows cracked...no water.  Its 102 degrees in Upstate NY Today.

I imediately called security who unlocked the car and removed the dog - then they called the police to take care of the dogs owner. I just feel so sad for the dog.

There is no excuse in my opnion!

Thank God you were there to rescue him! He would have died within minutes had you not seen him. I hope he gets taken away from his owner for good. Poor baby. =(

  • Good job.

That car can get up to 150 degrees in no time!  That dog's owner should be forbidden to own another pet.  Disgusting.

  • Before I read your actual post I thought- call the police, animal control!  OMG what freaks.  Kinnda like some parents- people like that should be banned from ever owning an animal again.  Good work- you're a doggie saviour!
  • LOL - I thought you had accidentally locked your dog in your car and my reaction to the post title (before opening it) was "Why are you on the bump instead of getting your dog out?!"

I'm glad you helped (saved) that dog and took care of the owners as well.

  • Thank you for doing something! People are so effin stupid. This pisses me off to no end.
  • You are awesome!!! Great job with calling for help. You seriously saved that dogs life. People are just stupid... I say we lock him in the car for a bit... see how that feels...
  • I've called 911 before over that! Its illegal to lock a dog in a car on a hot day, and totally okay to call the cops.

It pisses me off that people are that stupid!Hmm

  • The police reassured me the owner would not get the dog back under any circumstances. And that the dog would go to a "foster home" and not the spca (so it wont be caged) until a new owner was found.

Had it been going to the spca -- I would be the new owner of a yorkie.

  • you are awesome and get 5 gold stars for the day. I can not stand people who are stupid enough to leave their dog in the car in this kind of heat. Drives me insane. I have called security/the police many times on dumb pet owners.
  • Good job for calling.  People suck!
  • YEAH FOR YOU! I'm glad you saved that dog.  I take my dogs on car rides - but NEVER would I take it to a hospital or anywhere else I would be for a long time.  i don't get people who take their dogs to movie theaters and leave them in the car!

  • Thank you!  i'm a vet tech.  We had one patient who died of heat stroke after being locked in a car for 20 min. in 75 degree weather.  Why do people not understand how dangerous this is?
  • Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  You are an awesome person!
  • Thank goodness you were there & called....you saved that doggie's life!!

I seriously can't stand people, how effing stupid can you be?  I'd like to lock that owner up in the heat, what a jerk

Yeah...that's why DH is so hesitant to get in to fostering (not that we would right now anyway with so much going on but I would love to someday).  He's afraid every dog that wasn't going to have a good outcome would become our new pet, and that every dog we "fostered" would never leave haha.

we are the same way.. if we were to ever foster a pet.. it would never leave. I am a softie for animals, and I would be torn apart to take care of one and then have it leave :)

  • Good for you for saving that dog's life!  What horrible owners!  Angry

I called Animal Control again on my neighbor last night for keeping her dogs in the garage again.  Don't mess with me when it comes to animal care!

  • I'm glad you did your part for that poor doggy. That just gets me so pissed. We get 100+ degree weather here during the summer and it use to irritate me to see people leaving their dogs in the car while they were working out at the gym!! Angry Seriously, you can't go home and leave your dog before coming to the gym!! Ugh!!!
  • good for you for calling.

it drives me nuts that people think it's okay to leave animals in cars at any time, let alone a ridiculously hot day!

  • Thank you for doing something! Hopefully that poor dog never has to deal with that ever again
  • Thank you so much for calling and getting that dog help, OP! There's absolutely no excuse for that!

  • That makes me sick to my stomach.  I just read this morning of a pittie that died yesterday because of some idiot, it's the second story in less than a month.  If it's hot out and I go into a store/restaurant and the dog looks to be in distress or is in there for more than 10-15 mins that I know of I call the cops - everytime.  These idiot owners need to be ticketed and called out for the mental midgets they are.  DH is a police officer and they has no problem breaking the window to save a dogs life - CALL THE COPS IF YOU SEE THIS!!!!!

Thank you for calling! People like that need to be put in the cage and locked in the car just like the dog was so they can see what it's like.....

  • Thank goodness you did that! I'm still mad from the news this morning, someone left their dog in the car, NO WINDOWS CRACKED, they were shopping in Walmart for hours apparently and by the time someone saw the dog locked in there the dog was already in distress. He didn't make it. I don't know what happened to the owners.

  • Good for you, pisses the snot out of me that people are that stupid and cruel. I have left my dogs in the car but only with the AC running and DH in the car with them. That way they can have the windows down and drive around the parking lot while I pick up a couple of items at the store. People dumb enough to leave their animals in the car should be broiled in a bbq pit.

  • Good for you!  That irritates me to no end!  What in the world is wrong with people???
Proud Momma to two beautiful children!!!

  • OH thank goodness for you and the security guys! What is WRONG with people?!?!??!

That makes me see red. My mom and I once did that with a toddler and another time with a puppy- but it was more like 90 degrees outside and the police wouldn't do anything but wait until the owner's/parents came back. Urg!

  • Also, DH once dropped the keys in the trunk and closed it (not realizing they were in there) while our kitties were in the car on a warm-ish day (like 70-75 degrees or so) and I FLIPPED my sh!t! We were on the phone with a locksmith, the police, and I was about to bust the window with a brick when a "nice" guy who knew how to pick locks came over and got the door open.

When we called the locksmith who was 30 minutes away he was pissed that we didn't need him anymore. Um, yeah, I'm not going to let my cats die so you can make a few bucks. The ironic thing is, I would have been fine paying him anyway until he yelled at DH for getting the cats out without him.

I can't imagine anyone CHOOSING to leave their pet in the car when 5 minutes of my kitties looking at me like a crazy lady while I threw a blanket over the rearview window made me absolutely panic!

  • i also work in an animal hospital - we're a 24 hr emergency and specialty hospital, so we get a lot of the bad stuff...heat stroke is so preventable and unnecessary!!!  i just don't understand how people don't have the common sense to realize that if you wouldn't sit in the car with the windows up, you shouldn't leave your dog in the car...as dorky as it sounds, when the weather is bad, i won't even let my dog in the car until the ac has been running for a few minutes...

good for you for stepping up and taking action!!!  it's unfortunate that they've lost their dog, but hopefully they have learned a lesson...

  • How disgusting!!! I am so glad to hear the security guard did that.  I've been places before where there have been dogs locked in cars when its way to hot, so I've called the police.  The police have told me (more than once) that unless the dog is having seizures, they can not/will not do anything about it.  I was disgusted by that response.

So glad you were able to help this pup!!

  • I am not a dog lover, yes I have one because of DD and DH but he is the only dog I like. However hearing this makes me sick!!! No animal should be left in the car in this heat we have all had!!! I wont even leave my little guy in the car for 2 min if it is hot out, I take him in and wait to get kicked out of where ever I am before I leave him in the car! Good job!!!!
