2nd Trimester

Shower Gift Question

I was invited to a shower for the first time for next weekend and I'm not sure what's appropriate by way of a gift.  I went and bought a few things on her registry adding up to around $80.  Is that enough?  Too much?  She's a good friend, and this is for her 2nd baby, but I wasn't around for her 1st shower so I thought I'd try to do something nice.

Sorry if this is one of those questions that gets asked constantly, but I couldn't find a place where it had been discussed recently.

Re: Shower Gift Question

  • I'm not sure of your budget but I probably would of only spent $50 on a good friend for their 2nd baby so imo you're good to go!

  • I just bought a gift for a close friend's baby shower.  It's her first and I spent about $50.  You for sure did not underspend.  I also think if you can afford it- it's fine.
  • I'd say your right on track! She is a good friend so I think up to $100 would have been good. But, it is her 2nd shower so $80 is more than enough! That's nice she got a second one, usually you only get the one!!!!

That is about what I would have spent (maybe a little less since it is for baby #2).  Very thoughtful of you!

It depends on how close you are to the person and how much you're really able to spend.  For one of my best friends, I spent around $275 on a gift for her first baby.  For a good friend, I'd usually spend $100 (first baby).  For a second baby for a good friend, I think what you spent is perfect.

  • Thanks for the advice.  I've never been to a shower before and I have no idea what's appropriate :)

    This!

  • I also only spend $50 on shower gifts for good friends.  $30 for friends.  For my immediate family I would do $100.
  • If it were me, I would only spend that much on a family member or one of my very best girlfriends (I have 2).  Other than that, I usually spend about $40 or so.  If you have the money to spend, there is no harm in being generous, I don't think.  I just have to be careful with our money because I have a ton of friends always getting pregnant and I go to several showers a year.
