IUI#2 update and a ?

IUI#2 was yesterday.  We had 26 million (1 million more than last time) and 95% post wash motility (it was only 45% before).  Told RE yesterday that I am fine doing 3 IUIs but that I wanted to do IVF on cycle 4 due to the insurance covering 3 IVF (out of a total of 6 ART cycles they cover--yes I realize how very truly blessed we are to have that!!!).  For some reason I keep thinking IVF is the only thing that's gonna work for us.  Maybe that's just cynical nearly 2 years of TTC funk speaking, but who knows.

My question... RE said we could do IVF next cycle or go ahead with one more IUI.  I am kinda torn.  I really want to get pg and I know the odds nearly double between IUI and IVF for my age group (according to RE).  But it just seems like a huge jump.  Currently I am on femera and ovidrel.  He didn't want to put me on injectibles or do anything more next cycle because he's afraid I would end up with triplets... twins I could deal with, but I don't want to knowingly increase risk of triplets.  KWIM?  So for those that have been through IVF, talk to me... should I wait it out and do another IUI or should I try IVF next cycle?  At this point Eli will be 4 when I have another child and I wanted them to be 2 to 2.5 years apart... so I kinda want this to happen.

Re: IUI#2 update and a ?

  • I did not have to do IUI and went straight to IVF.  So if it were me, I would head to IVF esp. if you are anxious to get another baby in the world sooner than later.  For some people, IVF is a quick journey.  For me, it has been an 8 month journey and still no baby.

     Good Luck!

  • IUI worked for me so I'm probably biased.  I hope you don't mind me jumping in...in the scheme of things a few month difference for IUI versus IVF isn't going to make that big of a difference.  IVF is much more intensive than IUI.  From my understanding if IUI is going to work it usually does within 3 to 4 cylces so I'd say give it 3.  Just my 2 cents.  I know it's hard to wait when your in the thick of things but it sounds like you are a good responder if he doesn't even want to do IUI with injectables.  Your insurance will still cover 3 IVF's right?  If so it I'd take the risk.

  • Forgot to add good luck this cycle.  Your numbers are awesome!
  • I didn't do IVF but, if he's not going to change your protocol after three attempts of doing the same thing with IUI, go to IVF for sure!  GL!

  • I agree with PP about giving the IUI 3 cycles.  Niko will be 5 at the rate we are going, so I know how you feel.  Good luck this cycle!
