Switching from Formula to Milk

Austin has been on Similac Sensitive since he was about 4-5 months. It is a lactose free based formula, and he has done great on it. I recently switched him to Similac Grow and Go formula which has lactose in it.

He poop has been horrible since, almost like diarrhea. I have a feeling this could be because of the lactose.

I would like to stop using the formula and start the transition to milk. Do you think that he is gonna have the same reaction to milk b/c of the lactose in it??

Re: Switching from Formula to Milk

  • I would think you could try going directly to soy or lactose free milk if you'd like.

  • I had the exact opposite reaction with Rowen.  He got terribly constipated (he would just cry and it broke my heart) so we just in the last year switched him to soy milk and now he's completely fine.

I would try using a lactose free milk to begin with and see how it works.  But that's because I've been through a lot with Rowen and would hate to see someone else go through it.

  • Have you checked to see what the doc says?  We just switched to whole milk last week and Caroline's poo has changed some - definitely stinkier !  ewww!
  • I would probably use a lactose free milk first. Have you already tried doing a half and half bottle?
