Girl name help

We found out this week we are having a girl and are trying to figure out names. I have a very long foreign last name, (12 letters and 4 syllables :) ) So I feel like we need a relatively easy and not too long first and middle name. Both my husband and I love the first name Sofia but I cannot think of a good middle name that works. Any ideas?

Re: Girl name help

  • Grace is pretty.   But its very over used.  In fact, I know about 4 Sophia Graces that are all under 2.

  • Here are a few that I think sound good with Sophia: Rae, Claire, Mae, Michelle, Kate

  • Just a piece of advice on the spelling of Sofia. Her name will be misspelled her entire life. I have a name that should be spelled with a "PH" but my mother wanted it to be "F" and my entire life people have spelled it wrong and it's really annoying. I've gotten to the point where I stop correcting them and just leave it however they spell it. Just my two cents.
  • My DD is Sophia Joy.

I associate the spelling Sofia to be more Hispanic/Spanish/Italian and the Sophia spelling to be more Greek/French/English. FWIW.

Sofia is the more "universal" spelling .... just my two cents.

I've seen it as Sophia more than Sofia. Seeing as most people in this thread are spelling it with a "PH". This proves my concern.

Ah, yes, a whole 4 people. Wow.

I have seen Sofia a lot more than Sophia. It can go either way. Just personal preference ? the OP stated Sofia though, which is a very acceptable and widely used spelling.

Never said Sofia is not acceptable or widely used. Just gave my opinion based on what I've experienced with my name. No need to bicker back and forth about MY opinion. This is not even worth my time to continue discussing.

  • Thank you all ladies for the responses. Those are some lovely suggestions. Need to bounce them off dh now! As for the spelling. I hear both sides. We have chosen Sofia because my dh is not from here and the f spelling fits better with his country and our last name. But I do hear both sides of the argument. Thanks again ladies.

  • I love the name Sophia. I am considering it if I have a girl. We'd call her Sophie for short. I like Sophia Grace, Sophia Marie, Sophia Elizabeth
