Would you consider Molly a nickname?

I don't usually post about names that I'm thinking about, but I posted on the baby name board that I was "considering" the name Molly Margaret, and someone told me that Molly was a nickname for Margaret, so I'd basically be naming my kid (if we have a girl) the same as if I named a boy Mike Michael.

Do you consider Molly a nickname for Margaret?

I have not heard that Molly is a nickname for Margaret, but I wouldn't be surprised since Margaret has funky nicknames like Peg!. But, even if it is...Molly is so different from Margaret that most people wouldn't even know. I like the name Molly. I say...go for it!

I wouldn't think that Molly is a nickname. I've considered using it as a "whole" name- lol!

Molly can be a nickname for Mary or Margaret. I also consider it as a name on it's own. I would avoid "Molly Margaret" though, that sounds really funny IMO.

I know Margaret's that go by Marnie and Margey. I'm sure there are tons of Margaret nn's.

OP - I really like the name Molly but don't think you should pair it with Margaret.

I know some named Margurite who we call Peggy, I also know another person named Margaret and we call her Miggs. On the other hand my grandmothers name was Marjorie and some people called her Marge or Margie.

I think the name Molly is so cute! However, I agree with PPs that I wouldn't put them together. Maybe Anne, Elizabeth (as PP mentioned), Jane, or Katherine as middle names?

I've never heard of Molly as a nickname. If you and your H are happy with your name and mn choice- I say go with it!

I never knew Molly was a nickname. I thought it was a name on its own. And I certainly wouldn't think Molly was a NN for Margaret. Seriously, where do some of these nicknames come from??

Well, that rules out the one syllable middle names like Jane and Anne. I do like Molly Elizabeth. Others I can think of:

Molly Celeste

Molly Rene

Molly Louise

Molly Christine

Molly Denise

Molly Danielle

No Molly Elizabeth (or Elisabeth) as that's SD's middle name.

I'm having a hard time with middle names this time around.
