infant in car seat- head can't stay up

I have a two week old and I'm having a lot of problems with him in the car seat.  I have tried to prop his up w/ blankets, but it still almost folds over.  I look back and his neck is on his chest.  How do I prevent this?  Am I putting him in wrong?  Or do I need another support in the seat?  Thanks so much!

  • we had a problem with this too - we bought the jj cole strap covers - very soft and cushy - they slide up next to his head and hold him up.  Only 10 bucks at bru too - check them out!

  • I am not sure what car seat you have so this question i difficult to answer. However you may need an extra support OR the car seat not be installed properly and therefore tilting too much.
  • It sounds like the seat is not installed properly.  Have you had it checked?
  • You're car seat is probley fine. Go to Walmart or Target and you can get infant head support pillows. They are round with a cloth that hangs down so the baby will sit on the cloth part then the rounded part goes over his/her head then down the sides. It will hold up his head in carseat, swing, ect. Their pertty cheap about $10 or so.
  • Have the angle of the seat inspected. It sounds like it's too upright. Don't use any extra inserts for the baby's head; car seats are not supposed to be used with anything that didn't come with them. Your seat inspector should've told you this.

  • thanks for the suggestions
  • The head support I told you about are made for you're problem and clip right  in to all carseats. If you go and get you're seat inspected with it in they will say its fine. It wont affect anything with any carseat. The cloth part is as thin as a shirt and the head bumper part is above the straps. I have 3 kids and used them with all of them. As a mother thats been there I would really suggest getting one. At least untill you're baby builds up neck musiels so he can hold up his own head. Other wise he can strain his neck. Dont let people say it's going to affect the seat that is silly.
