Diarrhea with a bit of blood....
To start I am calling the Pedi as soon as they open... but wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
My son started with diarrhea two days ago...however he has still been eating well, no fever, been alert .. no other symptoms so we have just been watching it.
Last evening he has some bloody mucous in his diaper with his stool - I was thinking it may be a fissure from going so frequently but since it looked mucousy wondering if he has some type of viral infection... He still acts normal, eats well and doesn't have a fever.
Anyone have any experience with this and there LO's ??

My son just went through this and the pediatrician diagnosed him with a milk protein allergy. We have now switched to a soy based formula. Good Luck!
Nikki---- Thats what I was wondering also....did it take sometime for this to show up? He is almost 5 weeks old and been on milk based formula all along and this just started happening two days ago.
Also did they do any testing or just switch him to soy? did they test his stool for an infection first to rule it out?
How long did it take for the bloody mucous to go away after he was changed to soy? Is he doing well on the soy now?
Yes, it did take some time for the bloody mucus to show up. My son was 1 week old and had been on the milk based formula since his birth. I also had to take one of his soiled diapers into the pediatrician's office and they tested his stool. The bloody mucus discharge went away probably within a day and he is doing much better on the soy based formula. We have a follow-up appointment tomorrow. HTH!
