Inlaws

Is anyone else expected to entertain the inlaws when they come?  I am started to get really stressed out because they are coming when I asked them not to because Mya will be at day camp.  Then not only are they coming, but also Josh's step brother's family.  Josh has already told them that they need to stay at a hotel then.  Sorry for the vent.

  • Seems like Lib had this exact same problem.

  • What is it about ILs that makes them so inconsiderate?!

  • I guess I should be thankful we live close to my IL's, & see them usually once a week. This way they're never coming in from out of town and staying with us. That would make me crazy.
  • I thought I had to entertain and was super stressed out about it.  Mostly everyone was a help, more than annoying.
  • Mine don't live that close (neither do my parents) but I'm fortunate enough that everyone tries to keep our schedules in mind and makes sure that the visits work for us and them.

Usually what DH & I do before any family (or anyone else visiting from out of town) is make a list of potential things to do, sometimes literally writing things down.  We did this for Thanksgiving weekend and it was extremely helpful.  That way they got to set what they wanted to do and not do and we could plan once they got there of what we were going to do when.  If you really need to go to work, etc then make sure they know that ahead of time.  My mother in law will bring a book to read in that case and my father in law usually watches fox news. (but that's a different story)  My parents kind of do the same type of thing, just bring something to keep themselves occupied.  Hope this helps & good luck!

  • I am DREADING the MIL coming.  I have already put in place a two night max stay allowed.  She also is expected to help with cleaning and cooking, diaper changing, bath time, and whatever else we need help with.  It is not a "here give me the baby and you can do this this this and this" time here.  If she thinks so she is going home.  DH is home to help me out, but unless her boobs starting producing milk, she is going to have to let us do our own thing and get our own schedule and do what she is told.
