Really long naps... should I wake him?

LO (10w) has been sleeping for 3 hours now, and it's been 4.5 hours since he's eaten.  Yesterday, he took a 4 hour nap and went 5.5 hours between feedings.

Do any of you wake your LO from a nap?  I have always heard "never wake a sleeping baby"... but seriously, it seems like all he does is sleep!

Re: Really long naps... should I wake him?

  • I don't wake my sleepy baby.  I've learned the hard way that it only leads to an unhappy baby.  My LO doesn't usually nap too long during the day, but will sleep for up to 4 hours at night (sometimes).  Your LO is probably more tired than hungry, so don't worry too much.

  • In my 25mos of being a mom, I have only awakened a sleeping baby maybe 5 times. Ever. lol So, I say let him sleep. Coincidentally, my 7wk old took a 4.5hr nap yesterday and then sttn for the first time for 9hrs straight from 10-7a.

  • My LO is doing the exact same thing right now, and started this trend a day or two ago. She's an amazing sleeper at night, usually sleeps a solid 6-7 hours, wakes for a feeding, and sleeps for another 3-4. Then during the day consistently woke up every 3 hours to eat, that is if she wasn't already awake. However, now the psat few days, she has been awake a lot during the morning, and taking approximately 4 hours naps in the afternoon. I have no idea if I should wake her to eat, but I would assume she would wake on her own if she's hungry as she always has before. I hope to read some good answers on your post!

  • After being back at birth weight, I have only woken DD once and that was because we had a doctor's appointment we had to go to.  She was awfully cranky and since then I have let her sleep.

  • I wake mine, but she's only 3 weeks and lost a significant amount of weight so needs to keep packing on the lbs.  Otherwise, I probably wouldnt!
  • DD also sleeps all the time.  Her afternoon nap is generally around 4 hours long, I don't wake her.  The few times I have accidentally she was no fun at all and it totally messed up her sleep the rest of the evening.  She still sleeps a 6 hour stretch at night so I can't complain.

  • My LO is only about 3 wkd old but I don't wake her. The days she's up all day she doesn't sleep well at all, and when she takes long naps during the day she sleeps in longer time blocks at night. Good luck!
