I know all babies react differently to certain things, but I was just curious as to what diaper you will be starting out with. This just got me thinking because I was going through some of the free samples we have gotten.
I will start with huggies newborn, but will eventually end with Target brand. I used Target with my daughter and never had a problem. I only wish I used them sooner...so much cheaper. I hope I am as lucky with this baby as I was w/ O. No leaks, blowouts, or rashes.

I have no idea. I really want to make a decision on diapers but it's so confusing. I am very concerned about dry max. I can't do cloth because we have a mini apartment washing machine and it just won't hold up to all our laundry plus diapers.

We'll use whatever the hospital gives us until the meconium is done or the pack is empty. then it's on to cloth.
Someone gave me the same advice this weekend, since we plan to CD. They said to use disposables until meconium is done. How long does that take? Days, weeks?

What's the deal with dry max? Good? Bad?
There are lots of reports of dry mad causing burns. Pampers denies it.
My sister has two little ones and I take her advice on everything. She's kind of my 'tester' before I try stuff out and she said for newborns to only use Pampers because it's the only diaper she's ever used at the newborn stage that doesn't leak. and ruin clothing and bedding. So I am buying all my size newborn and size 1 in pampers.

I have heard that the dry max can give your baby chemical burn from when they pee in the diaper.... But that's what I have heard....
DD - Juliana Joan - Born October 27, 2010 - My Little Princess
We will be starting out with Pampers Swaddlers. I have heard good things about them, but once they are gone and we need to go get more, we might try something else.

I know I'm not ambitious enough to go the CD route, but still wanted to avoid chemicals used in traditional diapers. So we're getting an assortment of 7th generation, Earth's Best and Nature Babycare ones to see which ones we end up liking better. I hear they aren't as neat as traditional diapers, but we'll give em a shot anyway.

Pampers Swaddlers. I've used them from day one w/ Natalie, I've used them in every NICU I've worked in (if you want to talk about sensitive skin, there you go....premies have incredibly sensitive skin, and I never saw one single reaction to them). Love them.
However, I am intrigued by the Target diaper reviews I've seen. I may try those later.

the 7th gen and i think earth's best still have the sap gel in them. if you're really trying to get close to cloth i'd avoid them. check out tushies brand as well. they're gel free and work well.
Since i can't multi-quote here are 2 other responses to other posts....
meconium takes a few days. you could always just use liners i suppose, but i think i want a few days before laundry starts.
we're going straight to aio for the nb stage and then pockets once she hits 10lbs. i'm not a prefold girl.

I know they are still kinda sucky because of the gel, but I would at least like to avoid bleached fibers.

Pampers Swaddlers - we've grabbed the ones without drymax whenever we seen them along with the Sensitive ones. However, I've talked to quite a few Drs, moms, friends and they are all using the Pampers with Drymax and so far no problems. We'll start buying the ones with Drymax since that's about all you can find now and hope baby doesn't have a reaction.

We started with Pampers Swaddlers, Huggies Pure & Natural, and Seventh Generation. I like the Pampers and Seventh Generation better. I think it is good to have a variety in the beginning.

Huggies. DS used them and that's what costco sells! lol We used what ever people gave us first and then when we started buying them we went with huggies.
target brand all the way. they are just as good as any name brand. if baby develops any issues.. especially early on.. my first backup will be pampers swaddlers sensitive.

Our hospital gives out Pampers swaddlers sensitive. So we will use that in the early days.
Our DD wears Pampers and we have tried several different brands (Huggies, Up and Up (Target), and Luvs). Pampers just work much better on her. With our next baby (a boy) we will again try different and cheaper brands but will eventually work with what fits and protects best. Every baby is different.
Swaddlers from the hospital then a combination of huggies and cloth (if I can convince DH to start cloth before the BGs fit). Huggies were the only thing that dd didn't blow out when little
We have a few packs of both Pampers Swaddlers (w/o Dry Max) and Huggies. After whatever we get from the hospital runs out, we are going to try them both and see which works best.

This is my plan. For those planning to CD, are you going to start with prefolds, fitteds, or try to go straight to pocket or AIO?
Someone gave me the same advice this weekend, since we plan to CD. They said to use disposables until meconium is done. How long does that take? Days, weeks?
I don't know what these are called in terms of fitteds or pocket or what, but we plan to skip prefolds and rent these newborn Kissaluvs:

I will use Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive up until size 2. Then I will switch to Pampers Little Movers when she is in size 3.
We are starting with Huggies. That is what we used with DD and we never had any issues.
There are lots of reports of dry mad causing burns. Pampers denies it.

My newborn stash includes prefolds and covers and fitteds right now. I'd like to get 1 or 2 AIOs if possible, but not necessary.
