Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I need to hear some happy induction stories

I'm scheduled for Friday, but obviously hoping to get some natural action before then.

At any rate, people keep trying to freak me out, and I just want to hear some successful stories of people that were induced and weren't driven to get epi's or ended up with c-sections.

My doc said she doesn't see me having a difficult time, because my cervix is at 70% and the baby's head is really low... but still... I'm a bit nervous.
What are they going to do to me?

Re: I need to hear some happy induction stories

  • I had a successful induction! Went in on a tues night for cervadil and started pitocin Wednesday morning about 7 am. DS was born at 6 pm! I'll admit pitocin contractions suck worse than without pitocin but I delivered an 8 lb 13 oz boy with no tearing or cutting! Good luck to you!

  • I was schedualed to be induced the 8th and on the 3rd without knowing turns out I was having contractions. They had to break my water and I for sure thought I would need a csection because all the women in my family tend to dilate then go back down in dilation. My cervix was only 60% when I went in and it all turned out great! I was the first in my family to give birth vaginally and dont stress hun. LO could still come before induction and im sure everything will go smoothly! BTW I recommend having the mirror up during birth. Its one amazing sight and gives you more strength to push with all your might :D
  • I just wanted to wish you good luck. My story isn't the one you are looking for but it was still ok and I'd go through it over again in a heartbeat to get the result of my beautiful daugther.

I did get induced and ended up with a c-section. I went in at 90%effaced and 2cm dilated. Pitocin started at 11am Saturday. I startedc pushing at 10pm. She was born via c-section at 12:15am Sunday (Father's Day).  She was turned sideways and couldn't get past my pelvic bone.  Even with the c-section it was still a good experience. No matter what happens, it will all be worth it once your LO is here.  Try not to be scared.  It's really a beautiful experience.

  • My induction went great. I wasnt dialated at all so i went in the night before to start medicine. Then at 7am the next day i was 3cm and they started pitocin. The contractions werent that bad. Then at 10 my dr said i could get the epi at anytime, so i did. Then i didnt feel much of anything. At 12 i was 5cm then at 130ish i startrd feeling alot of pressure so they checked me again and i was at 9cm! They continued to let baby drop downnfor 2 hours. I felt more pressure with those contractions but it wasnt that painful really. Then i pushed about 10-15 minutes and DD was born!! Really the whole process went smoothly and wasnt painful really, recovery has been more painful honestly!! GL and i hope everything goes smoothly!

  • I got my water broke at 9:20am and had DS at 11:03 am.  1 hour 45 min.  Only thing that was not so great is my epi didn't work at first.  I went so fast that I went through transition with no meds.  I was 39 weeks (induced for medical reasons) and 2+ when I went in.

  • Good Luck!!!!  Can't wait to read your birth story, before you know it you will have one!

I had a VERY easy induction....went in Wed. at 4 pm was only a fingertip dialated but "VERY" thinned out per the doc, cervadil inserted at 6 pm, started getting more severe cramping (more than the BH I had been having for a month) around midnight or so, asked for the pain med at 2 am.

6 am pitocin started and was 3 cm dialated, water broke same time....Doc also gave okay to get Epi at that time, 7 am MAJOR contractions, Epi in after only 2-3 bad contractions....I basically just watched movies, snoozed a little and visited with DH and some friends until around Noon or 1 pm when I could start pushing....

Ryland was born at 2:23 pm!  Quick and easy!

    Good luck!

  • I had a great induction at 40 weeks 3 days.  I was at 3 when I arrived, started pitocin at 930am, no real change or contractions until they broke my water at 330.  I started pushing at 815 and met my beautiful daughter at 849pm!

They often get you to come in the night before to get the gel inserted. (I didn't need that because I was already at a 3).  Once they start the pitocin they want you up and walking and will likely get you to come back every hour for an increase in the pitocin and a quick check on the monitors.

Good luck! You get to meet your little one soon!

  • My induction was so easy.  I was induced at 39 weeks 4 days (for various reasons) with my dd who is my 2nd baby.  I was already 4cm dilated and 50% effaced and head was very low.  I started pitocin at 3:00 PM, had epi at 4:45, water broke on it's own at 4:50, baby born at 6:07 PM.  Very easy labor...couldn't have been smoother.

    Good luck!

  • I was similar to you, had my induction scheduled but was hoping to start labor on my own!

I was induced 11 days post due date and it went great.  They started pitocin around 9:30 am, they had to break my water around 1:30 pm and he was born at 4:48 am!  So, I guess my labor was around 20 hours, but that feels pretty normal to me....I did get an epidural, but I had planned on that from the beginning, so I don't know that the induction made me get it.  I will say that once they broke my water the pain got pretty bad pretty quickly and I am not sure how I would have made it another 14 hours without meds.  However, if you have your mind set on doing med-free birth, I am sure you could do it!!

There were a few times they took me off the pitocin b/c of reactions from the baby, but never once did anyone mention needing to consider a c-section.  My doctor is fairly progessive and I felt like she wouldn't force me into anything.

I did have a tear, but nothing worse than any of my friends that went into labor naturally and no epi.  So, overall I felt like my hospital/doctor really did everythiung they could to make the induction feel a little more like regular labor.

  • I was induced at 40w4d because LO was having heart decelerations. They started me off with misoprostol (instead of cervadil, but similar effect). LO continued to have sporadic heart decels, but in an effort to avoid a c-s they inserted a foley bulb (basically a balloon on either side of the cervix to open the cervix). I got an epi a couple hours after the bulb was inserted because at that point, I couldn't do anything but lay on my left side because of all the monitors and because LO's heart rate would drop if I changed sides. After the epi, they started pitocin, which really wasn't bad (probably because I had the epi). The pitocin did the trick, and I dilated fairly quickly with it. The whole process took about 28 hours, but I only pushed for 42 minutes. The doc warned me they might have to use forceps, or do an episiotomy, or may even have to do a c-s, but because the pushing went so well, I didn't have any of those. (I did have a second degree tear.) It wasn't the birth experience I had hoped for, but the end result was so worth it anyway.

  • Mine was successful.  I was fingertip dilated at my 40 week appointment.  I went in at 40 weeks 2 days to be induced.  They gave me 2 doses of cytotec overnight, I was supposed to have 3 but my contractions were too close together (about 3 mins).  When they checked me before starting the Pitocin at 7:30 AM I was 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced.  Around 10:30 I was at 5 cm.  LO arrived at 12:54 PM so less than 6 hours on the Pitocin, and pushed for only about 10 - 15 mins.  DS did need assistance with a vacuum due to some heart decelerations.  I did not have an epidural, by the time the pain got really intense I was 9-10 cm dilated and it was too late.  I did get some IV meds during the morning to help with the contraction pain which allowed me to sleep through the contractions.

  • I had an emergency induction at 35weeks b/c of eclampsia. It took just over 24 hours ( first 12 were no big deal since there was no pain or anything). I was induced at 11am Sat, sometime overnight I was started on Pitocin. My water was broken at 7am Sunday and then a short while after that I was given an epidural (I had a lot of pain b/c of some previous issues). Once I had the epidural and they put the catheter in and emptied my bladder everything moved very quickly. It allowed more room for DD and I went from 4-10 cm's in 1.5hrs. I pushed for 20 minutes and out she came. Considering my body was not ready to have DD since it was 35 weeks I think I had a very succesful induction. I was also scared since I had heard so many inductions leading to C-sections but since my delivery I've heard lots of good stories. Goodluck!
  • Thank you all for taking the time to share...

It's a confidence booster when all I keep hearing are horror stories!

    I feel better now :-)
