He is doing pretty good. Pretty much indifferent as long as one of us is paying attention to him. He has only asked to hold him once. He loves to be a helper and get burp clothes and paci's. We have gotten him to stop trying to stick the paci in Nathan's mouth, but he will put as many pacis as he can find on him if he is fussing.
Only advise is to make sure your toddler knows they are still a priority. The baby can cry for a few minutes if the older child needs attention.
DD1 is doing really well. She is super gentle and very protective.
I started getting her used to the idea as soon as we got pregnant: she went to many of my dr appts, both u/s, gave her a baby to help take care of, referred to the baby as 'ours.' She used to try and feed the baby through my belly button (juice and goldfish) and she would talk to my belly all the time.
When DH brought her to the hospital after DD2 was born, I made sure I wasn't holding her when they arrived. That way my arms were available for just her. I also made sure that we had just us time after baby came home ~ snuggle time, bath time, bed time were for just her, DH and I...baby could wait.
Now, we have a little step stool so she can 'help' change baby's diaper and give her a bath. I also use nursing time to read her books.
You have to find your own balance, I struggled with a lot of guilt on both sides ~ like I was neglecting both at one time or another. The best move I made was to keep DD1 in daycare until summer (we only have our nanny during the school year since I'm a teacher) Still, I have a lot less one on one time with DD2 and I worry about that...
