So DH might have a job offer in Kingwood. We just moved back to Austin from Dallas, and it's our home, but the economy is tough & we may just have to make the move if the offer is good enough. But, I'd like to know more about the area. Can you give me the good, the bad & the ugly? Thanks!
Re: What can you tell me about Kingwood, TX?
I live up the rode in Humble and we love it here. The school's are very well rated in Humble ISD(which is where most of Kingwood goes).
I am not sure of your price range and if you want to live in Humble or Kingwood but some nice neighborhoods are Walden, Fall Creek, Summerwood, Barrington, Greentree and Oakhurst.
There are lots of golf courses around us, lots of trees and Lake Houston is 2 streets down from us. We live in Walden.
Let me know what else you would like to know.
my dh and i moved to kingwood 7 years ago and LOVE it here. we're in kingwood, on the north side of the lake. when we first looked out here, we loved all of the trees and the paved walking/riding trails that pretty much connect all of the villages. like the previous post said, the schools in kingwood are rated really well. we have great MDO places (love school for litte children). it's a very recreational place, lots of joggers, golfers and we even have a big cycling community here. (i ride almost every weekend).
i pretty much have all great things to say. it's a really kid/family friendly place to raise kiddos and i think it's affordable too for the square foot and lot sizes. i live in bear branch, but also love kings forest, greentree, sand creek, the whole area's great. i do wish we had a greek place to eat and i do drive over to the woodlands if i want to go "shopping". the nearby mall isn't my favorite, but i can run in to get something if necessary.
good luck, let me know too if you have any questions.
Also you can look at homes on HAR.com. You can search by zip code and school districts.
I've never lived in Kingwood, so I can't tell you about day-to-day living, but I think it is one of the neatest areas of Houston. They call it "The Livable Forest" because of all of the mature trees there. Unlike most new communities in the Houston area, they actually retained the existing trees when building, rather than rip them up and plant new ones. It's so peaceful to drive through. One of the biggest complaints about the Houston area I hear from Austinites is that it's flat and ugly. Well, Houston is definitely flat, and no, it doesn't have a lot of natural majestic beauty, but I think having the forest and Lake Houston there might help you adjust a little better, if you're an outdoorsy family.
The homes there that were built in the 80s are my favorites. Although the kitchens and baths would need updating, they have so much character, are on large lots, and are really spacious. And they are affordable for what you get.
If you ever need to go into downtown for events or a night out, they finished expanding Hwy 59 several years ago, and it makes the drive a breeze.
It seems that so far, we all are just giving you the good--and every place has bad and ugly too, so hopefully someone who has lived there can share it with you.
