New here and looking for doctor recommendations

Hi!  I am new here and have never posted before.  My coworker recommended that I take a look at the boards at the Bump and the Nest because her daughter has found these boards very helpful.

My name is Jessica and I live in Haddon Township.  I'm looking for recommendations for a Fertility doctor.  My ob/gyn recommended South Jersey Fertility but I was wondering what other people's experience has been with them and also for other recommendations.  My sister lives in NY and she said that she interviewed a couple of doctors at diffrent practices before they decided on the right doctor or clinic for them.  I don't know of any others in the area and I don't know anyone around here who has gone through this process.

I'm hoping to find a doctor near home or near work - Voorhees, Marlton, Mount Laurel areas.  I would appreciate any information or help you can provide.

Thank you for your help!

Re: New here and looking for doctor recommendations

  • I worked with SJ Fertility and really liked them. The staff was very nice there, I loved the nurses, and the doctors were great. My favorite doctor was Dr. Van Deerlin. My least favorite doctor there was Dr. Noorhasan; she basically told me that I should just "wait it out" and see what happens (at this point we had been trying to conceive for 1.5 years). I told them I didn't want to see her at any of my appointments and they accomodated my request. I did not go to any other fertility clinics, as they were recommended to me by my OB and my Endocrinologist. Good luck to you!

  • I also used SJ Fertility.  I was sent to Dr. Sawin because I had an enormous fibroid tumor and apparently he's the "fibroid guy" to go to.  He was great and so was Dr. Van Deerlin.  I had to have a myomectomy to remove the fibroid, which was basically a c-section because it was so big.  Dr. Sawin was excellent and my regular OB said he did a great job with that surgery while she was performing my c-section at my son's delivery.  We also had unexplained infertility and Dr. Sawin walked us through everything and now we have a wonderful little boy who just turned 18 months last week.  We went back recently to get checked out again because we're having trouble conceiving again.  I would recommend SJ Fertility, but I did not check out other doctors because I needed Dr. Sawin for the fibroid and they made me comfortable enough that I didn't mind going back.  I'm Catholic and they were also very respectful of my beliefs as far as the fertility side also.  As that other post mentioned, I was also not very happy with Dr.Noorhassan, although I never met her.  She was the one who called to tell the results of my recent bloodwork when I had a miscarriage.  Maybe it was just the situation, but she didn't seem very warm like the others.  Although it can't be very fun to be the one who has to make that call to a patient.  Good luck!
  • I also used South Jersey Fertility to conceive this pregnancy.  I Drs. Sawan and Van Deerlin were great, and really took the time to talk to me and my husband during the process. I highly recommend them.
  • Thank you all for the information!

Our initial consultation at SJ Fertility is with Dr. Packin in a few weeks.  Anyone have any feedback on him?

  • We also used SJ fertility and Dr. Van Deerlin was our main doctor.  I had a pituitary tumor and was referred to them.  They are great there.  We ended up doing injections and I got pregnant the first time around.

  • I saw Dr. Pakin for my second pregnancy. He's the PCOS guy, so that is who my OB wanted me to see. He's pretty dry -- he joked more with DH than he did with me (specifically when we were going over the questionare).

He was super aggressive with my treatment plan and I liked that a lot.

We were lucky and got pg w/our first round of Clomid.

    GL to you!

Thank you!  We're nervous about our appointment but I'm glad to hear he is aggressive, though I don't have PCOS.
