2nd Trimester

Where are all the maternity clothes the pretty people wear?!!

I'm really struggling finding things that fit me and are somewhat flattering.  I'm petite (5'2) and still petite in body pregnant.  I do have a definite baby bump at 17 weeks so regular mediums aren't covering my bump.  Most maternity shirts are truly a tent on me.

I spent time trying things on at Pea in the Pod and Motherhood yesterday only able to find two regular tshirts.  I've been to Target, JCPennys, Kohls, Burlington,...Unfortunately I don't have a local OldNavy or Gap maternity.  I did try some but most were also tent-y but for tank tops. :)

Anyone else have this issue? suggestions??

Thanks!!

  • Look for non-maternity empire-waist shirts. That's what I wore until recently and many still fit me.

  • My Gap Maternity has limited selection, but I have found their sizes to be true to their regular sizes so I've been shopping online.

  • I went on modcloth.com and looked for long, empire-waisted or tunic style tops. It's not maternity, but you can make it work. :)
  • If you have one near you, check out Ricki's. There's not a LOT, but they do have a Ricki's Expecting line with some nice shirts. They're kind've bunched up on the sides so that they stretch outward with the belly. I'm even smaller than you and I just bought a bunch of them and they fit great. :)
  • I'm having that same problem!  Thanks for this post.  I hope to get some good ideas too.

    Good Luck out there!

  • I'm short too and had a very definite bump by 17 weeks as well! I hear ya! I've gotten quite a few things from Motherhood (their pants come in petite!) By the end of the day the waste on my pants/capris are a little loose (I get smalls) but not so bad that its annoying. For shirts I have a lot of the t-shirts from there with the cinched sides. I've noticed that no matter where I get maternity shorts they are too long (always 5" inseams, which is like 3" above my knees due to short legs). I mostly just wear regular shorts with my belly band.

This is my absolute FAVORITE shirt!!

Holy crap. I didn't even notice that. FWIW, I'm petite, but ugly Stick out tongue

Same. Which is why I could recommend anything.

Ann Taylor LOFT has an online maternity section, but the selection, like gap's, seems small.

Apparently a lot of celebrities buy Isabella Oliver maternity clothes. The line seems to be very body conscious, which might be good for your petite frame. There is a website (try googling it), but the clothes are pricey, so you might want to wait for a sale.

I'm not petite but what I'm finding with pregnancy is that I have to wear tops that are fitted or I look ridiculous.  I also have giant hooters, so that doesn't help.

agreed! everything is like a tent and I just look HUGE!

  • I like Isabelle and Oliver - they are pricy, but they just had a 50% off sale.  I bought a few items with my first pregnancy and the clothes held up great.  I"m not sure if I qualify as pretty people, but a lot of celebrities wear this line.
  • Do you have an H&M by you? They have a maternity line that runs a little small. And they are cheap.

  • I went into Motherhood Maternity just to look around and the saleslady said that nothing would fit me since I wore size 0-2 usually. I've just been wearing a ton of dresses this summer and then in the fall/winter I'll buy yoga type pants and stretchy shirts.
  • I haven't had the best luck in stores, but I've done very well online.  Old Navy and Gap have petite pants (well, "short").  Old Navy has generally been running big ( I normally wear a size 4 in jeans there and wear a size 2 maternity)  Gap has been true to size.  Otherwise, I've been doing tons of dresses.  Being petite matters less with dresses.  I've been having really good luck with Target online and found them to be true to size.  I also got a couple pairs of capris at Motherhood.  I don't love them, but they work.  GL!
