F/U to fireworks post

We took Alexa with some friends to a park to watch the fireworks. Since they didn't start until 9:30 p.m. central time and her bedtime is 7:30 p.m. EST, I figured she's be asleep by the time they started and the noise would wake her up to watch.

WELL. She fell asleep before they started alright. But not until 9 p.m.! Doh! Too much going on for her to sleep. And she ended up falling asleep on me in the Ergo and not in her stroller.

But when the fireworks started... She slept thru them!

They were MUCH LOUDER than I remembered... VERY LOUD in fact. So I held my hands over her ears the whole time. She didn't even stir. Not a peep. Slept thru the whole show! LOL. We had a good time. I guess she'll have to wait until next year to watch them! Too bad. I bet she would have loved to watch... But I wasn't about to wake her up!

How about everyone else? Anyone else take their LO to see fireworks? A parade? We went to the tail end of a parade... It was SO HOT! She wilted in the sun so I'm glad we only went for 15-20 mins.

Re: F/U to fireworks post

  • I seriously could have written you post almost word for word.  Ashton feel asleep in the ergo and I held my hand over his one ear since they seemed so loud.  He was only awake for one pop and then he was fast asleep.

Good to hear your LOs fell asleep the whole time! Maybe we should've gotten closer to the fireworks! We watched them from about 5 miles away on a hill and had a good view without the noise. LO was fussy almost the whole time! MH had to hold and walk/rock him for half of the show =P

  • my parents live down the street from where they shoot off the fireworks in their city and they live on a hill so we had a great view of the fireworks.  miss A fell asleep around 7:30pm and i woke her up at 9pm when they started.  it took some effort to wake her up too, as the first few booms from the fireworks did not even wake her. once she was awake and outside (i had to bundle her up in a blanket b/c it was freezing outside in southern CA!!) she was just staring up at the fireworks.  she didn't act excited or anything, but i don't know if that was b/c she was still groggy or b/c she didn't care for them that much.  she startled a few times but definitely was not scared. after the show was over we went through her bedtime routine and she went right back to sleep :)

looking fwd to next year when she'll probably be more interested in them!

  • First, my goodness, when did Alexa get so big?! She's beautiful.

We took Cassie to the big firework show in downtown this year. I was worried because she was a bit afraid when the neighbors were popping fireworks the night before. She was afraid to even walk past the windows in the living room because they were so loud. When we arrived to downtown all she kept saying was "no fireworks" and "no like fireworks Mama" but once they started I kept reassuring her that they were pretty lights, and she was fine. In fact, she was mad because they were over....go figure.

  • We decided against going out to see them...too hot and humid and too many crazy people out (folks here like to celebrate with firearms...Indifferent)

Libby went down around 8 p.m. and the fireworks started in the neighborhood around 9 p.m. so she woke up and the dogs went nuts.  We endured that for about an hour...I had some Boston Pops show on the TV trying to drown out all of the barking and booming so she saw fireworks on TV....she wasn't very interested though.  She'd rather just play with her toys.

  • Jack had a long evening nap so he was awake and ready to watch.  You can see the city fireworks from our house so we watched from outside for a while but then I took him in to change him and you could still see the lights in his room and he was looking around so I put him up to the his window and we watched the rest from there (much better since it was so cold out).  He was amazed.  We also had sparklers and he loved those too.

that reminds me - when we went to my grandfather's funeral he had a military service with the gun salute.  Jack was sleeping in the sling and I totally braced myself, covered his ears and waited.  then.... nothing.  He slept right through it.  Continued sleeping until we got to the reception and we walked by a car with a dog in it - the dog barked and he woke up wailing. hah.
