Need Some Advice About Sleeping

I normally sleep on my stomach, and here recently, that has been uncomfortable/painful to even try.  Does anyone have any advice on how to train myself to sleep on side?

Re: Need Some Advice About Sleeping

  • Try putting a pillow between your legs. It makes it difficult to roll onto your stomach without waking up.

  • I'm still sleeping on my stomach and I know its not good but its the only way I can fall asleep but DH says soon as I start to snore my body must tell me something and I end up on the left side! But I have no idea what Im going to do when I'm 6 months and can't sleep on my stomach.. so i feel you pain!

  • Ugh I'm dreading the day that I can't sleep on my tummy anymore. grrrrrr

If I start to feel uncomfortable on my stomach I sort of stay on my stomach but turn my hips to one side and put my knee way up on the side. Hmmm it's really hard to explain, lol.

When pg with dd I received a hand me down boppy pregnanct pillow from my cousin and thought I'd hate it but ended up loving it. That help my transition too from my belly since I could kind of rest of stomach on the pillow but still have my shoulders facing down like I was laying on my stomach.

  • I would agree I havent been able to sleep on my stomach for about two months now due to tender brests, they are not as tender anymore but now my tummy is uncomfortable -- I toss and turn each and every night.... I also use another pillow, body or otherwise in which I drape my leg over and it kinda feels like I am on my tummy.....

I think it's like you're kneeing some guy in the nuts, and then listing over in that position Wink

I do that a lot.  It works great for the time being.  Keeps pressure off the tummy (your tummy has a little crawlspace created by your hips) but you still get that satisfaction from stomach sleeping.  That is until the tummy itself is big enough not to even manage that anymore.

This sounds like how I've been sleeping! But only since being PG...my back gets sore if I sleep any other way!

  • Me too. Laying completely on my side makes my back hurt and the pillow between my knees just seems so hot. I have been sleeping on my side with a small pillow next to me. I put my top leg on the pillow. It keeps my belly off the mattress. I will have to eventually go to fully sleeping on my side but I can't sleep that way yet. Try it and see if it works. I was having so much trouble sleeping, I couldn't go straight to my side.

Thank you! Technically it's professional and I took it, I'm a photographer lol :)

  • I'm normally a stomach sleeper, but I've modified my position..  I kinda sleep in a runners pose.  I sleep on my left  with my right leg bent forward with a pillow propping it up, so it doesn't put stress on my hips.  I also use two pillows, so my keep the stress off my neck and shoulders.  I'm on my left side but still leaning slightly forward.

I do this too - sort of pop one hip out, so the hip and legs take more of the weight than my growing belly. sometimes if I'm really sticking out, I'll put a pillow under one of my hips to tilt me more. Nothing is really comfortable, but I've been getting SOME sleep that way.
