1st Trimester

anyone else have brown discharge/spotting?(sorry..gross)

this is my 2nd child and i didn't have this with the 1st.  the last couple of days i've had like a brown discharge.  i called the dr. this morning and they said not to worry, that it happens often.  only worry if it's bright red blood.  i just wanted to get some opinions from anyone that might have the same thing.  thanks!

Re: anyone else have brown discharge/spotting?(sorry..gross)

  • brown spotting is common.  if you're worried about it, ask for a u/s.

  • I experienced that with both of my children. DS was around 6 weeks and DD around 9 weeks. I went in and got checked out and everything was fine. From what I was told, as long as its not bright red with cramping, all should be well but still something to bring up with your doctor during your visits. GL!
  • brown with red every now and then until week 7. and occasionaly still but not constant. Very normal. Happened with both my pregnancies.

  • its not that i trust people on the internet more than my doctor i just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same experience.  i thought that's what this board was for...so we could ask questions to other ladies and help us get through some of the crazy things that happen in pregnancy.  i completely trust my doctor when she says it's nothing to worry about, but again, i was just curious if other people were going through the same thing.
  • I have had spotting off and on since 7 weeks. My doctor says it's normal too. Both of my sisters also had spotting. My doctor said not to worry unless it is red and you are cramping at the same time.
  • I am having a little bit myself and this is what I keep reminding myself of...I have been having some which discharge anyway (like CM) and its only natural that there might be some old blood that makes its way out too.  Its hard for me to not panic too, as I have had a miscarriage.  I totally get it.  Breathe deep and remember you can't do anything about it except think positive, hydrate well, and rest!!  Good Luck!!!

  • I haven't had any, but both of my friends who just had babies had the exact same thing during their pregnancies, and both have happy, healthy babies now! Smile

I also completely understand your desire to check in with other mommies-to-be.  Even if you trust your doctor (which I am sure that you do!) it is comforting to hear other people are having the same experience.  So keep posting questions and concerns, that is exactly what these boards are for!

  • I have been spotting on and off for a few days now, pink and brownish too... Just talked to my doc and they said the same thing - as long as its not heavy it's normal. I also have light on and off cramping which she said was normal too! I trust my doctor but am still worried it will turn into something more. GL!

  • I had it on and off from weeks 6-8.  I was scared too, had an u/s and everything was fine. I do have a small bruise (hematoma) but I'm not sure it was from that. Baby looked great! My dr told me the same exact thing yours did.
  • Since you didn't just ask for success stories, I'll weigh in.  Brown spotting was my only indication that I'd lost my first pregnancy.  I understand that it commonly is nothing, but I take it very seriously now.

  • i have it and my friend told me to get tested to see if im pregnant
  • Yes, you should be able to ask any questions you have here!  That IS what these boards are for and people who don't care about the thoughts of complete strangers on the internet shouldnt be on these boards anyway!

As far as the spotting goes, I started with brown spotting 5 days ago.  It turned into red spotting on day 3.  Drs keep saying it's "common" but at 6 weeks there was no fetal pole.  Just hoping for the best.  It's all we can do, right?

  • same with me. over the weekend I had some random light brown spotting in the morning. I didn;t have anythign with DS and I also still have lots of cramping. it makes me nervous but I keep saying to myself that as long as its not red then I am fine, but its still hard.

  • I have had the same thing from Friday-Monday (none yet today), but I had my 1st appointment on Thursday where they did an internal exam and a vaginal ultrasound, so I am hoping it was just from that.  I have also had some very mild cramping, but I remember that with DS too, and the cramping is much better when I drink more water.  Good luck!

This was me too with pregnancy #1.  No symptoms of miscarriage other than brown spotting (off and on) from week 7 until they discovered the fetal demise at 10w via ultrasound.  Baby measured about 9 weeks.

I take spotting seriously.  While it is COMMON it is NOT NORMAL. No bleeding in pregnancy is "normal".  Listen to your doctor and be positive, but know that if it gets heavy or worse or you have cramping that you should probably be seen and get an ultrasound.

I hope it all works out for you!

This is the same way I feel. I didn't want to be the first to say it, and I'm glad someone did.

  • Don't be concerned about posting on the boards. I'm not sure what that first response was about but this forum is for reassurance and help throughout pregnancy. I had 2 episodes of bright red bleeding, one a quarter size, and the other 2 pinpricks. So far so good :) Brown should be ok though everyone's case is different. If you get too worried ask for an ultrasound :)

  • I have had brown spotting with all of my pregnancies.  I miscarried the first, had a perfect, healthy baby the second pregnancy, and things are going great so far with the third pregnancy.  With the second, I was very worried and the doctor gave me an ultrasound.  So.... in my opinion, the brown spotting doesn't really tell you anything and if you are really worried, get an ultrasound.  It is better than worrying for the next couple of weeks.
