Eddie Bauer Travel System: Vent & Q

I need to vent and apologize if this comes across as ungrateful bitching....

My MIL has been asking me what she can get for us for weeks now.  I keep telling her where we are registered and which brands we like.  (She knows how registries work, BTW.)  The subject came up again this past Sunday.  She mentioned that she and FIL were at Sears and saw a stroller on sale.  Again, I told her where we were registered and what infant car seat and stroller frame we wanted (we registered for a Chicco Keyfit 30 and snap n go for now).

Then, today, MH calls me while I'm at work, saying that he and my FIL are at Sears and that my FIL wants to buy us a stroller.  Come to find out, it's an Eddie Bauer Travel System (Regular price $239.99, on sale for $224.99--not a huge discount, IMO).  I didn't research Eddie Bauer and did not want a bulky travel system (for ease of getting around and because we don't have a lot of trunk space in our cars).

MH said the sale ends on the 11th (this Sunday) and that FIL wants to use a $200 Sears gift card that someone gave him, which is why my ILs are hell bent on buying us something from there.  I told him that there might be something we registered for at BRU that is also sold at Sears and that they should hold off on buying something for today.  He tells me FIL says he's going to buy it today and that we can just return it later if we don't want it.  Gah!  I thought we could avoid these types of situations by doing a registry, but it seems some people could care less.  *sigh*

That said, can anyone vouch for the Eddie Bauer Travel System???

  • sorry :( just return it later and get what you want... they have the chicco keyfit at sears and maybe it will go on sale at some point there.  i don't see how $15 off the eddie bauer one is even a good price - it's not even 10% off.

  • I'm sorry.  I would be just like you - I researched and selected very specific things.  Small toys and clothes are one thing, but a large travel system that I didn't want would not be something I could budge on.

I guess if you can't talk them out of it just return it (unless you find out that the eddie bauer system is something you are interested in).  I think Sears online has lots of baby stuff, so maybe just ask them if you can have the gift card just to save everyone the hassle.

If you think you may be able to talk them out of it say something like you researched to find something that would fit in your car and the EB system won't (I guess that would work as a return excuse as well...)

I think this is what bugs me the most.  I've spent hours doing research and feel good about the bigger ticket items we registered for.

Come to think of it, in addition to now knowing how big the EB stroller is and how it will fit in my trunk, I don't even know if the EB rear-facing infant seat will fit in the backseat of my Rabbit.  Based on the research I've done, I know the Keyfit 30 will fit.

Good to know they have the Keyfit at Sears!  About the $15...yeah, it's not much at all!  When MIL told me it was on sale, I was thinking 50% or something (she made it sound like an awesome deal).  But $15?  Eh.  Not impressed.

I've calmed down a bit now.  Smile  I'll take a look at it and am trying to keep an open mind, but I feel like just taking it back as soon as I get home from work.  Stick out tongue

  • I had the same thing happen.  My mom kept telling me she was going to get this or that, and I had to tell her that I was doing all this research and to stick with the registry.  I totally feel your pain.

I agree with pp - just take it back and get store credit and get something else.  Or save it and use it for clothes - they have great Carter's stuff there!  And if they have the car seat there, that's good too.
